Diary of the Dead Kicks Off RIOFAN!

I am not sure how many readers we have from South America, but RIOFAN (Rio Fantastic Film Festival) is something worth talking about regardless because George A. Romero’s “>Diary of the Dead (review) will be kicking off the film festival in Brazil on April 30th!
The festival’s current website is in Portuguese, but we’ve been informed that it will be updated soon to include English. Click here to check it out.
“RIOFAN will screen more than 180 films, including short and feature-length movies. Nine titles will compete in the International Jury Competition, while six are featured in Visions – a competitive section for films with an experimental, innovative approach to the fantastic.
All films featured in Panorama and the Midnight Screenings will compete for the audience award for best film.
A retrospective of Brazilian horror and fantasy shorts, the RIOFAN Classics section, and a special showcase of H. P. Lovecraft inspired films are also highlights of the event.
The awards will be announced on May 8th. That night, José Mojica Marins will receive his award for career achievement and will host a special screening of A Praga (The Plague), considered lost for several years. Mojica will also present an exclusive preview of Encarnação do Demônio (Embodiment of Evil), the last entry on his Coffin Joe trilogy, which is due to open in August in Brazil.”
