Art of the Devil 3 Kicks Thai Ass

Want an idea how much cooler the Thai filmgoing public is than ours? The gory sequel Art of the Devil 3 managed to make it to the top of the Thai box office this weekend, placing well ahead of the second place film, Variety reported this morning.
For those who’ve seen “>Art of the Devil 2 (review), you know this isn’t some conventional horror film with subtle scares and a pretty cast. No, the Art of the Devil movies are notorious for their near-excessive use of gore. From the looks of it the third movie is no exception, and the public came out in droves.
The best part, for me, is that the Hollywood remake of the Thai film Shutter, the original of which was a near cultural phenomenon in Thailand, has only made $35,000 in two weeks. Now that is satisfying.
