Horror-themed video games have come a long way since Zombies Ate My Neighbors on Genesis and the SNES. In fact they’ve gotten so damned cinematic that some games actually inspire some real life chills. I dare you to play Fatal Frame alone with the lights off, punk!

One of the year’s best first person shooters with a truly creepy theme, F.E.A.R. is making its way onto next-gen consoles this year; and to celebrate, Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games and GameTrailers.com, a division of Viacom Inc.’s MTV Networks, today announced that they have partnered to bring the Show Us Your F.E.A.R. user-generated movie contest to F.E.A.R. fans everywhere. The competition, which calls for the creation and submission of unique short films showcasing your greatest fears, features a grand prize offering of $1,000.

Made available through the official F.E.A.R. website and GameTrailers, the Show Us Your F.E.A.R. contest kicked off on October 5 and challenges fans to develop a creative, scary video that demonstrates the true meaning of fear. Entrants can also submit machinima shorts using the F.E.A.R. video game. On October 24, 2006, GameTrailers will announce five to ten finalists and give viewers the opportunity to vote for their favorites. In addition, the finalists will be featured on IFILM’s website. Voting will end on October 29, and the contest winner will be revealed on October 31, Halloween Day. In addition, contest finalists and winners will be featured in a GT Weekly special that goes live November 4 on GameTrailers.com.

For additional information on the Show Us Your F.E.A.R. contest, including official rules and online registration, please visit FearFans.com, the official F.E.A.R. website or GameTrailers.com. All video submissions will be screened prior to being posted to the site.

F.E.A.R. for the Xbox 360 and PS3 will be available in stores this November. Be sure to visit EVILSHOP to pre-order your copy now!
