RAD... The greatest bike movie ever made and the second greatest KARATE KID knock-off of all time, an all-time favorite of mine and I wasn't even big into BMX as a kid either. This 1986 masterwork of cinema from Hal Neeham, director of MEGFORCE, SMOKEY & THE BANDIT, BODY SLAM, and the CANNONBALL RUN films, is a simple tale about one man with one dream; and that dream is to ride his bicycle and ride it better than everyone in the entire world. No, I'm not talking about the kind of bicycle riding that Lance Armstrong is famous for. That kind of bike riding is for pansies. Why do you think it's so popular in France? I'll tell you why: because the French aren't man enough to ride BMX! Real men, real Americans, they ride dirt bikes. Roads? BMX riders don't need pavement. Uphill inclines? BMX riders don't just climb up hills, they jump over them. You think some namby pamby like Lance Armstrong could navigate a bicycle course as ferocious as HELLTRACK~!? Ha! Ha, I say! Ha, I tell you! The supposed best cyclist in the world has to go to Frogland to trek through the hills on a 10-speed. Everyone knows that the true greatest bike rider there ever was and will ever be is Cru Jones. AMERICAN FLYERS can kiss my ass! It's all about RAD! No doping here.

Surely I am not the only person here that remembers and loves the cheesy awesomeness that is RAD - the BLOODSPORT of BMX bike movie. Back then (We're talking the 1986-1988 era) there was RAD and THRASHIN' (the skateboard version of RAD) but it was RAD that was a top VHS rental for two consecutive years. And yet there is still no legitimate DVD release? Why? A crime I tell you. Cru Jones. The chick that went on to be Uncle Jesse's girlfriend on Full House. Olympic gold medalist Bart Conners as the villainous BMX super snob. The Mongoose bicycle company actually allowing themselves to be portrayed as the film's bad guys. Ass Sliding. Mrs. Rocky Balboa as Cru's mom. Dancing on BMX bikes. Endless musical montages. Thunder in Your Heart. My Favorite Martian giving people the finger. And most importantly, HELLTRACK~!

Please tell me I'm alone here. If you've never seen it or just need a refresher, I've written a complete disection of one of the greatest motion pictures of the 20th century - RAD. Who can possibly argue against... THE RADNESS OF CRU JONES

Who knew they'd go on to a career writing television shows and horror movies?

My roommate is absolutely bonkers over this film. He keeps trying to get me to watch it but I don't know if I can take the 80's all over again.

But rest assured, you're not alone, there are people out there who just adore this flick.

You can survive this flick and have a great time in the process. For all their badness, those cheesy 80s movies are going to hold up a hell of a lot better than most of the movies from the 90s will.

I always had an inkling.

They look remarkably like Tekno Team 2000!
