Click to see it bigger!Abominable (2006)
Directed by Ryan Schiffrin

Didn’t catch its premiere on the Sci Fi Channel? Or maybe you did and just can’t wait to see what was cut out (I’ll give you a hint: Tiffany Shepis naked… hell yeah)? Anchor Bay has what you want this week with the unleashing of what is quite possibly the best Bigfoot film ever made. Hyperbole? Maybe, but I’ll be damned if I can name another that’s as much fun as this flick, and it’s safe to say none of the other ones have a goddamn face biting! Be sure to read Creepy’s DVD review of it for more! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Body Double (1984)
Directed by Brian DePalma

Jake, a struggling young actor, comes home from work one day to find his girl with another man. Thankfully he doesn’t do what most men would, kill the girl, but instead moves out and tries to find a new place to live. He takes a job as a house sitter for a fellow actor and is introduced to his favorite neighbor: a beautiful woman who strips in front of her window every night. He becomes obsessed with meeting her, but when his one chance leads to him witnessing a murder, things get very complicated. Sony re-releases this classic with some cool new features and a brand-new transfer. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Calvaire (The Ordeal) (2004)
Directed by Fabrice Du Welz

This is a movie that’s been bandied about online for a while now, with all sorts of good things being said about it and it being called a tense and unrelenting tale of horror. Such is sadly not the case though; the first half of the movie is just bleak landscapes and depressing dialogue, as a traveling singer is taken in by a strange farmer when his car breaks down on the way to a gig. The farmer soon thinks the singer is his long-lost wife, finally come home to him, and only then does it get weird, though never all that brutal. You’ve been warned. Buy it here!

The Covenant (2006)
Directed by Michael Bafaro

A young PR exec (played by Eddie Furlong) is passed over for a big promotion at his job and, to add insult to injury, gets attacked and blinded by a random thug on his way home. Enter a shadowy acolyte of hell (Michael Madsen) who promises to restore the exec’s sight with a hellish demonic cane. All he has to pay is his eternal soul (insert evil laughter)! Not to be confused with the recent boy-band horror movie of the same title. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Curse of El Charro (2004)
Directed by Rich Ragsdale

It’s a fact, folks; true evil can never die. In this supposed mixture of 70’s exploitation, 80’s character-based horror, and German expressionism, a girl joins her friends on a road trip to a vacation home in a remote desert town. Once there she is pursued by El Charro (Leatherface himself, Andrew Bryniarski), an ancient evil entity out for revenge on the girl’s bloodline. The DVD includes a short film by director Rich Ragsdale, “Into Something Rich and Strange,” as well as a making-of featurette. For more, check out Melissa’s review of the DVD. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Disorder (2006)
Directed by Jack Thomas Smith

David was sent away a few years ago after the brutal double murder, for which he was the prime suspect. He claimed a masked killer was responsible for the heinous crimes, but no one bothered to listen to him. Now he’s back home, heavily medicated, and trying to start a new life for himself. But the mysterious masked killer has other plans for him, and even a new love interest and help from the town’s psychiatrist and sheriff aren’t enough to make him feel normal again. What is real and what is all in his head? Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Edmond (2006)
Directed by Stuart Gordon

If you got into Stuart Gordon’s latest film, an adaptation of a play by David Mamett, with any kind of expectations for a movie of unrelenting brutality, you’re likely going to be disappointed. If you go in hoping for a bizarre tale that focuses on the fragile psyche of a man living in our day and age and a study of what it would take to push such a man to the very edge, you’re going to be in for quite a ride. To be honest it’s very hard to pin down Edmond into any one genre, I guess he’s here because he is a Master after all, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad film in any way, shape, or form. Indeed, some might argue that it’s the most terrifying movie Gordon’s ever directed. Don’t miss it. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Forever Knight Trilogy: Part Three (1992)
Directed by Rene Bonniere, Clay Borris

Did I just completely miss parts one and two? I don’t even know why this is being released as a trilogy, wasn’t “Forever Knight” a really bad vampire cop TV show? Yes, yes it was, but don’t ask me why it’s being released as a trilogy, nor why this is the third part. I can tell you that it’s about Nick Knight, a Toronto cop who is trying to make his way to redemption after being a bloodsucking vampire for 800 years. Man, that’s gonna take a lot of good karma to make happen, don’t you think? Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Ganja & Hess: The Complete Edition (1973)
Directed by Bill Gunn & Fima Noveck

Sure the plot sounds mostly cut and dry, but this is one of the weirdest films I’ve ever had the pleasure (I think) of seeing. When archeologist Hess Green awakens from a near-fatal stabbing by his research assistant, who then kills himself, he finds that his wound is cleared up and he has an insatiable lust for blood. The knife had some germs on it that turned him into a vampire, it seems. When he meets his former assistant’s wife, the two of them get along well, but how long before she discovers his horrible secrets? I’m not sure what’s “complete” about this edition, but I would venture to guess it’s a fully loaded disc. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Glass House: The Good Mother (2006)
Directed by Steve Antin

The sequel to the Leelee Sobeski movie from 2001, the film begins with the disappearance of a couple’s children. At first it seems cut and dry, but as the title implies, the mother isn’t exactly the most stable of ladies. Two more children lose their parents and are somehow adopted by the grieving couple, and pretty soon the mom’s evil ways come to the surface yet again as the brother begins to get sick all the time and the sister is met with some very strict house rules. Click to see it bigger!Hollywood Legends of Horror
Directed by Various

I’m not really sure what the thinking Warner Bros has behind releasing a box set of lesser-known horror movies from the golden age of the genre, but I guess we really shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth, should we? Included in this set are Mark of the Vampire, The Mask of Fu Manchu, Doctor X, Mad Love, The Devil Doll and The Return of Doctor X. Some of the films feature commentary by film historians, so you can do some horror learnin’. Buy it here!

House of Blood (2006)
Directed by Olaf Ittenbach

I don’t know about you, but if I happened upon an isolated cabin in the middle of the woods and found it covered in blood with chains bolted to the walls and straps on the beds, I would probably look someplace else. The four ruthless convicts who do find it with their terrified hostage, however, don’t think like you and me and decide to hole up in it. Of course there’s an ancient curse in the house that they’re going to discover and most likely won’t live to tell about. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!I Was a Teenage Movie Maker (2006)
Directed by Donald F. Glut

Between the years of 1953 and 1969, amateur horror moviemaker Donald F. Glut made dozens of short films on 16mm film, and gained worldwide notoriety thanks to the pages of Famous Monsters of Filmland. This DVD is about his life and times making movies that inspired the likes of John Carpenter. Featuring interviews with Forrest J. Ackerman and other old school horror personalities and including 41 of his movies and tons of bonus features packed onto two discs. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Live Feed (2006)
Directed by Ryan Nicholson

While on vacation in a foreign country, one of a group of five “young adults” makes a moronic mistake that ends up putting all five of the group into a life or death situation. I’ve not read much else about this film, though I’ve heard the title being thrown around for a while now, but what I have heard has indicating that it’s very gory and no one gets out of it alive. The DVD has some featurettes, a few deleted scenes, and commentary by the cast and crew. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Medium: The Complete Second Season
Directed by Various

Wow, a supernatural show that actually lasted more than one season? That’s pretty hard to believe nowadays, despite the eye-pleasing presence of Patricia Arquette. The show is about a suburban mom who one day discovers she has clairvoyant gifts and goes about solving crimes the police can’t while trying to stay the dutiful mom at the same time. Sounds like the recipe for wacky hijinks to me, but something tells me the show was played straight. It was based on a supposedly true story, by the way. This set comes with six discs and a lot of features for your enjoyment. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Next Door (2005)
Directed by Pal Sletaune

John thinks he has a good thing going with his girlfriend, Ingrid, until the day she dumps him and leaves him rudderless. He allows himself to be seduced by his two beautiful neighbors, Anne and Kim (and really, why not?), but their seduction leads him into a world of mystical evil in which he’s unable to separate reality from fiction. But is this really the end of all things normal for John or the exact slap in the face he needs to straighten his life out? TLA has loaded up the disc with featurettes so be sure to pick it up and find out! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Norliss Tapes (1973)
Directed by Dan Curtis

David Norliss, an investigative reporter, has just gone on what might be his last assignment. Through listening to the tape of his last few filed reports, a newspaper publisher is able to piece together a story of vampires and voodoo zombies, all of it leading back to one widow. Why is it always chicks screwing stuff up? Be sure to read Debi’s DVD review for more on the flick and the disc it’s coming on! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Pumpkin Karver (2006)
Directed by Robert Mann

A slasher movie with only two kills in the first hour; you know something’s wrong with this picture. A killer whose M.O. is supposed to be that he carves his victims like pumpkins, but only actually does it once throughout the entire film. A boy, traumatized by a masked killer who did said carving, grows up and moves to a town called Carver, which specializes in growing pumpkins. Yep, you know this is one that Foy’s had his hands on, so check out his review of it before you move any closer to the next link. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Roost (2004)
Directed by Ty West

Please, please, please don’t believe the hype surrounding this movie. Some have called it a new horror classic; hell, Fango is quoted on the box calling it an unheralded horror gem, but in reality it’s just a slow and somewhat technically well-done movie about some luckless victims trapped in a barn who are attacked by bats that turn them into zombies. Just go into it with a level head, and you’ll likely enjoy it more. Of course, Creepy’s DVD review won’t help with that as it’s overwhelmingly positive, but give it a read anyway. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Sinful (2006)
Directed by Tony Marsigila

Normally I ignore anything coming out with the name Misty Mundae in it, as they’re usually softcore porn/horrors that are generally best left ignored, but since this cover is so remarkably similar to our own logo, down to the reflected skull in the eye, I couldn’t just let it slip by without pointing it out. Weird, huh? The story is about a woman who is trying desperately hard to get pregnant but cannot. When she is befriended by a next-door neighbor who just got knocked up, their friendship soon turns to seething envy, and the barren woman decides she will become pregnant by any means necessary, consequences be damned. Click to see it bigger!Toxie’s Shock Box
Directed by Various

So just how many Troma movies can be squeezed into one ill-named box set? And I call it ill-named because, if you’re naming something after one of your characters, wouldn’t it make sense to have said character on the front of the DVD art? Within are 15 movies; Blood Hook, Zombie Island Massacre, Blades, Sucker the Vampire, Tainted, Rockabilly Vampire, Garden of the Dead, Buttcrack, Unspeakable, The Nightmare Never Ends, Igor and the Lunatics, Frostbiter, Bloodspell, Drawing Blood and Alien Blood. And with those kind of odds, one of ‘em has to be worth watching, right? < a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000GNOH96/evilshopnet" target="blank">Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Twilight Zone: The Complete Collection
Directed by Various

Wow, another massive set of episodes from what is arguably the best horror/sci fi anthology show ever created, but this time it’s not just complete seasons; it’s the entire series. Why did I hear about this before, I wonder? For the first time ever, all 156 episodes of Rod Serling’s brainchild have been collected into one massive box set, complete with all the special features that came with the season-by-season “Definitive Collection” sets. So I guess you could call this a double dip, but I seriously doubt it’s one many will be complaining about. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Voodoo Moon (2006)
Directed by Kevin VanHook

I have no idea where this flick came from, but when a movie with some fairly recognizable names shows up on DVD with little to no fanfare, you can bet that it’s not going to be a new horror classic. Indeed, Voodoo Moon is a movie with a lot of missed potential; something that could have been really cool with less shitty CG effects, a bit more time spent figuring out what kind of story would be told, and way less mugging by lead Eric Mabius. Check out my DVD review if you really are dying to know what it’s actually about. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Woods (2006)
Directed by Lucky McKee

You know one of the best things about this site? We have so many people watching and reviewing so many movies for you guys (and you gotta admit, we have a lot more than most) that we can get two wildly different opinions on the same film from two very intelligent reviewers. The Woods is a great example of this; check out Michelle’s review of the movie for a very positive look at it (and one that I happen to agree with), then Debi’s DVD review for the other side of the coin. After reading both you’re going to have to decide which lovely lady to agree with, so your best bet is to buy it here!
