Did anyone catch this last night on Sci-Fi after "Who Wants to be a Super Hero"?

It was GREAT. I'm suprised that nothing has been said about it here on the boards, as the show is freaking GENIUS.

The conceit of the show is that there is this author, Garth something, I forgot his last name. Anyways, he made this show called "Darkplace" in hte 80's or something that was deemed too "extreme" for TV. But now they have decided to realease it on the unsuspecting world.

Ok, now that's the "reality" of the show. In other words, all that crap is a hoax, that guy isn't a writer in real life, and there was no "Darkplace" made 20 years ago.

Then the show.....OH MY. It's a parody of british horror/british TV that is quite simply BRILLIANT. Imagine "Shaun of the Dead" mixed with "The Lost Skelton of Cadavara" in a soap opera style fashion. Darkplace is the name of the hospital in which the show takes place. It really has alot of fun playing with the more awful side of 80s television. There are horrible jump cuts, terrible line deliveries, and ther is one character whom everytime he speaks, his voice is dubbed over in a different voice. Anyone who loved old 80s horror TV shows will get a kick out of this. All the actors play it straight.

Here is hoping to more "Darkplace"!!!

I watched this and at first I was like WTF...then I couldn't stop laughing...my favorite parts was when the girl walks in and is bending down to pat a cat that wasn't there and you see the person throwing the cat from the doorway and then she continues petting...Just to catch these errors made the show so fun...like when the guy is holding the shovel used to hit the talking head...and it cuts from that to a cup of coffee he is holding back to the shovel..

I loved this show...will be watching!!!

haha, YES.

At first, when Garth Marenghi is talking about all this stuff about this show, and his prolific body of work, I was like 'Why haven't I heard of this guy before?". Then when he said "I spent THREE HOURS of my life conducting interviews for this special re-airing of the show", I knew this had to be a joke. There was no way in hell this could be serious.

I can't wait to see this show again.

OH yeah, I found this. www.garthmarenghi.com Pretty funny stuff.

Wow, that's really you Garth isn't it?

it's a true honour to see you popping up here, and I'm really glad that Darkplace seems to be finding an audience on sci fi.

your writing was just too radical for britain I guess. it makes me ashamed to be british.

Dark Place took every bad cliché in horror movies and turned them up to 11. It was hilarious but it showed that whoever made it had definitely done his homework on z grade productions.

Got turned off by the ads I'd seen, now I guess I've gotta check it out. Subtle, Marenghi.... real subtle.

I'm gonna give this a shot on Friday. Beats "Kingdom Hospital", I'm sure.
