| Talk about a polarizing movie. I loved it. While I'm no snyder fanboy, and can easily admit to a flawed story, I enjoyed the entire movie immensely. The most disappointing part of the movie was knowing how it was obviously edited down at the studios request in attaining the PG-13 rating. I'm unsure how much of what was discarded, but this movie needed a few more key storyline pieces to fully come together. I wouldve wanted a little more exposition in the main/asylum reality, and maybe a few more cues that set up certain fantasy elements, but that just makes the blu-ray release that much more exciting. I'm hoping the Directors cut answered questions, and is a better representation of the R rating he was originally goIng for. Still, good opening, excellent fantasy sequences, and a great tone shift in the final act made me happy. |

The more I think about this movie the more I hate it. It's like watching a 2 hour long music video. The characters are all completely generic and useless, the dialogue is fucking horrible, the action scenes have NO point in the movie and do NOTHING to move the plot along, the pacing is atrocious, the acting is unforgivably bad, and half the god damn movie is in slow motion.
It just... does NOTHING right. |

| After letting it digest a bit, I came to the conclusion that I like the movie based on what he was trying to do, and not what he actually did. You're right in every point you made, and it isn't like it can be interpreted in different ways. Certain story elements can be discussed and interpreted, but not because they were meant to be, but because they weren't fully fleshed out enough to make complete sense. It's almost like everything between fantasy sequences were rushed through just to get to the next fantasy. It's just, in my opinion, it had everything I've ever wanted to SEE in a movie, so I forgave the rest. I still have a suspician that a lot of the flaws were due to studio interference. I could be completely wrong, and snyder could just be an awful writer, but I'm hoping the next cut of the movie answers some of these questions. Or at least a commentary does. |

Well from what I read a number of scenes were cut, so a director's cut could make it better for you.
But I really dug it. And really, nothing is worse than The Last Airbender. That was just soul-draining shit of the worst kind. M. Night is a bigger hack than Paul Anderson at this point. At least I can sit through one of his films without wanting to off myself half-way through. |
