A promo video for Christopher Sun's 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy has been added to YouTube.
The screenplay for 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy was written by Stephen Shiu (who's also the movie's producer), loosely based on the erotic novel The Carnal Prayer Mat by Li Yu (family name/given name). The movie stars (listed order corresponds to speaking order in promo video) Leni Lan, Saori Hara, Yukiko Suô, Hiro Hayama, Vonnie Lui, Tony Ho, and Irene Chen.

Yukiko Suô and Vonnie Lui
Distribution rights for 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy are to be offered for sale by Tai Seng Entertainment (U2 Home Entertainment Inc.) at this year's American Film Market (AFM) in Santa Monica, California; a promo reel for the movie is scheduled to be screened at the AMC Santa Monica 3 on Friday November 5th at 11:00 a.m..

The film's producers will offer differing cuts to cater to the censorship standards and cultural tastes in different regions. Buyers are encouraged to "pick and choose" edits, not only for their regions, but also for theatrical and DVD releases, to address the censorship concerns of various territories.
The tactic has proved effective, as the rights to the title have been snatched up for Italy, France, Peru, Russia, and Singapore during the American Film Market, after an eight-minute preview in 3D was screened. The film's distribution rep Alvina Wong said buyers can choose, with the producers Stephen Shiu Sr. and Stephen Shiu Jr. and director Christopher Sun to put together "tamer versions" suitable for their respective territories. Rights were pre-sold for New Zealand, Australia and Korea in Cannes.
Produced by the Shiu father-and-son team through their One Dollar Production, the HK$20 million ($2.5i million) action-packed film was shot entirely in stereoscopic 3D. It is a reinvention of the 1991 blockbuster Sex and Zen, inspired by the 17th century Chinese erotic novel The Carnal Prayer Mat, that spawned a wave of copycat period erotica set in historical China. Hong Kong's Menfond, the digital effects house behind Jet Li's Fearless, the alien dog in Stephen Chow's CJ7, and the conversion to 3D of Tim Burton's A Nightmare Before Christmas takes charge on the 3D effects of vigorous, sometimes sadomasochistic, action sequences. Hong Kong release of the film is set for May or June 2011. |

Here's a synopsis for 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy from the official website for the movie: "As a conceited scholar of the Ming Dynasty, Wei Yangsh[e]ng [Hiro Hayama] believes that since life is short, one should pursue the ultimate sexual pleasure as time allows. Wei Yangsheng encounters Tie Fei the Taoist priest's daughter, Tie Yuxiang [Leni Lan], on an occasion. With the former's talent and the latter's beauty, they fall in love at first sight, and Wei Yangsheng is later married into the Tie's family. Yuxiang is elegant and courteous under the influence of her father's faith, though her lack of passion cannot fully satisfy Wei Yangsheng's sexual needs. His disappointment is no less than his affection for her. ¶ One day, Wei Yangsheng follows his friend Lin to the The Tower of Rarities, where The Prince of Ning keeps his grandiose treasures.
