A teaser trailer for Fuminori Kaneko's Ôoku has just been added to the official website for the movie; click on the fourth tab from the right on the top of the site's main page.
The screenplay for Ôoku was written by Natsuko Takahashi, based on the manga series Ôoku: The Inner Chambers (Ôoku) by Fumi Yoshinaga. The movie stars Kazunari Ninomiya, Kou Shibasaki (a.k.a. Kô Shibasaki), Maki Horikita, Tadayoshi Ôkura, Sadao Abe, and Hiroshi Tamaki.
Here's a synopsis for Ôoku: The Inner Chambers from VIZ Media LLC: "In Edo period Japan, a strange new disease called the Redface Pox has begun to prey on the country's men. Within eighty years of the first outbreak, the male population has fallen by seventy-five percent. Women have taken on all the roles traditionally granted to men, even that of the shogun. The men, precious providers of life, are carefully protected. And the most beautiful of the men are sent to serve in the shogun's Inner Chamber..."
Shochiku Co. Ltd. (Shôchiku K.K.) and Asmik Ace Entertainment Inc. (Asumikku Êsu Entateinmento K.K.) are scheduled to release Ôoku theatrically in Japan on October 1st.
Note: Contrary to the current claims of a number of websites (e.g., The Internet Movie Database (IMDb), Nippon Cinema, and CinemaScape), the given name of the director of Ôoku apparently is "Fuminori", not "Fumiki" - see, for example, http://www.tbs.co.jp/catseye/comment/comment_director.html and http://woman.excite.co.jp/cinema/sp/catseye/interview/.

Introduction :
One female Shogun, and her 3,000 men. The secret of the inner palace unveils.
Story:
Million selling comic book series of history entertainment fiction finally appears on movie screen in live action. 17th Century Japan. A mysterious epidemic infecting only men decreased the number of men to one-fourth of women, which made the world ruled by women. Under the female Shogun, there was an inner chamber called Ooku, where 3,000 beautiful men were serving her. Mizuno, a poor samurai, decides to work there to make his family's living and encounters reality of the inner palace...
