First Look Clip: Dystopian Dungeon Horror TIN CAN Premiering at Sitges Film Festival

Tin Can, a dystopian prison movie from director Seth A. Smith, receives its international premiere at the Sitges Film Festival (Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantastic de Catalunya) this October.

The post-apocalyptic film taps into the collective tension and unease of the current global moment. Anchored in themes of claustrophobia and dread, Tin Can presents an unsettling take on human preservation in a disease-ravaged environment.

Synopsis:
As the world faces a deadly plague, a front-lines parasitologist is imprisoned in a life-suspension chamber. To escape she must destroy the last of her kind.

A clip, released this week to coincide with the premiere announcement, offers a first look at the film. We see Fret Greyl (Anna Hopkins) wake, imprisoned in a dark cell, dimly lit by the glow of a broken “WELCOME BACK” sign.

Starring Anna Hopkins (The Expanse, Bad Blood), Simon Mutabazi (Black Cop, Sex & Violence), and Michael Ironside (Scanners, The Machinist, Total Recall), Tin Can is the third feature for the CUT/OFF/TAIL team of director/writer Seth A. Smith, writer Darcy Spidle, and producer Nancy Urich. The company’s 2018 psychedelic horror The Crescent premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and later took home top awards at the FIN Atlantic International Film Festival for score, screenwriting, and performance. Among other accolades, The Crescent was listed among the Globe and Mail’s top ten Canadian films of 2018, and was recently credited by director Robert Eggers for inspiring some of the abstract imagery in his Oscar-nominated film, The Lighthouse.

For this new feature, the CUT/OFF/TAIL trio is joined by executive producer Rob Cotterill (The Lighthouse, Hobo with a Shotgun) and character designer Mike Jensen of best-selling video game Destiny. Director/writer Brandon Cronenberg (Antiviral, Possessor) consulted on the film’s script.
