Noboru Iguchi's Denjin Zaborger: The Movie (Denjin Zabg: gekij-ban) is set to start shooting shortly. As was noted in a post of mine last month, the movie is being produced by Nikkatsu Corporation (Nikkatsu K.K.) under the company's Sushi Typhoon label. Its cast apparently includes Yui Murata, Asami, and Cay Izumi (Izumi Kai) - all three of whom are in Iguchi's RoboGeisha (Robo-geisha) and his, Tak Sakaguchi (Sakaguchi Taku), and Yoshihiro Nishimura's Mutant Girls Squad (Sent shjo: chi no tekkamen densetsu). Nishimura and his Nishimura Eizo Co. Ltd. (Y.K. Nishimura Eiz) are responsible for its special make-up effects.

BTW, Asami is also in Iguchi et al.'s The Ancient Dogoo Girl: Special Movie Edition (Kyretsu mretsu! Kodai shjo Dogu-chan matsuri! Supesharu mb edishon - a.k.a. "Kyretsu! Mretsu!! Kodai shjo Dogu-chan matsuri: supesharu mb edishon"), Shin'ichi Okuda's Yakuza-Busting Girls: Duel in Hell (Gyakush! Sukeban hantzu: jigoku no kett), Kazushi Nakadaira's Yakuza-Busting Girls: Final Death-Ride Battle (Bakuhatsu! Sukeban hantzu: skatsu nagurikomi sakusen), and G Ohara's upcoming Gothic & Lolita Psycho (Gosurori shokeinin).

High-Kick Girl!, starring Rina Takeda

Kodai shjo-tai Dogn V apparently stars Maria Yoshikawa as Dore-chan, Rina Takeda as Doro-chan, Erika Yazawa as Dogu-chan, Misaki Momose as Doji-chan, Manami Nomoto as Doka-chan, and Haruka Dan (6th row, on the left) as Dori-chan.

Yoshikawa previously co-starred with Erika Tonooka in Teruyoshi Ishii's Abashiri Family (Abashiri ikka: The Movie), and co-stars with Ayako Yoshitani in Yoshiyuki Tanaka's upcoming Tenbatsu. Takeda previously starred in Fuyuhiko Nishi's High-Kick Girl! (Hai kikku gru!), and is in Masaharu Takizawa's Shjo senshi-den Shion (which was released theatrically in Japan on Friday). Yazawa previously starred as Dogu-chan in Iguchi et al.'s TV series The Ancient Dogoo Girl (Kodai shjo Dogu-chan), as well as the aforementioned The Ancient Dogoo Girl: Special Movie Edition. Momose co-stars with Rina Akiyama in the aforementioned upcoming Gothic & Lolita Psycho.

BTW, the English-language title of Denjin Zabg: gekij-ban was changed some time ago from "Denjin Zaborger: The Movie" to "Karate Robo Zaborgar".

The Japanese official website for Karate-Robo Zaborgar is now online. Also, a stills gallery for the movie has been added to Sushi Typhoon's Facebook page.

BTW, as I mentioned last week in another thread, the official website for Noboru Iguchi, Yoshihiro Nishimura, Tsuyoshi Kazuno, and Taiga Ishino's "image production group" Pabaan is now online.

Karate-Robo Zaborgar is scheduled to have its world premire at this year's International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) on January 28th, and to subsequently be screened there on January 29th and February 5th.

Here's a description of Karate-Robo Zaborgar from IFFR: "Don't take it seriously. A real tokusatsu (special-effects film) which focuses on the fun of ridiculous effects. The hero with his racing engine that can take on all kinds of robotic forms fights against even more ridiculous robot monsters. Once a cult TV series. Japanse retro science fiction, based on a TV series from 1974 about a futurist robot. Secret agent Yutaka Daimon sets out to fight the evil Dr Akunomiya and his gang, after they kill his father. To help defeat Akunomiya, his father left Yutaka a robot, Zaborger, which has the power to change into an engine (and was later the inspiration for Hasbro's Transformers). Before they reach Akunomiya, an army of bizarre cyborgs and robots must be defeated, however. Iguchi rejects smooth, computer-generated sci-fi in order to pay homage to the original series, giving the film a retro appearance in which the plastic and cardboard is clearly visible. It's obvious from Karate-Robo Zaborgar that Iguchi has plenty of experience in horror, slasher and porn: fountains of blood, flying limbs and murderous breasts abound. Very cult. Genre lovers will remember Iguchi from the 2008 gore-fest The Machine Girl."

Here's a description of Karate-Robo Zaborgar from Sushi Typhoon: "Part motorcycle, part karate expert, all robot! When the safety of the world is at stake, Zaborgar will save the day! Following the death of his scientist father, secret police officer Yutaka Daimon inherits a mighty robot warrior named 'Zaborgar'. Equipped with an array of super weapons, an expertise in karate, and the power to transform into a motorcycle, Zaborgar assists Daimon in his fight against Sigma, the evil organization responsible for his father's death. After uncovering a plot by Sigma to steal the DNA of Japanese politicians and use it in a giant robot weapon, Daimon faces off against Miss Borg, a beautiful female robot under the control of Dr. Akunomiya, the twisted leader of Sigma. Despite being on opposite sides of the law, Daimon and Miss Borg fall in love - a development that spells an end to the once inseparable crime-fighting team of Daimon and Zaborgar. Twenty-five years later, the now-disgraced Daimon has been reduced to working as a chauffeur for corrupt Prime Minister Wakasugi. But Sigma, having at last finished its giant robot, is now preparing to unleash it upon the world. With no one left to oppose them, a worn, middle-aged Daimon is forced out of retirement and into service as a crime-fighter one last time. But will Zaborgar forgive and forget, and aid Daimon in his quest to maintain righteousness and save the world from total destruction? From director Noboru Iguchi, creator of the international hits THE MACHINE GIRL and ROBO-GEISHA, comes a hilariously over-the-top tribute to the transforming robots of 1970's Japanese television, and an exciting action/comedy that will stir the heart of anyone who longs for justice dispensed at the short end of a swift robot karate kick!"
