you know.. the thing that makes me not hate Shutter Island is Leonardo's very last line of dialogue. I like how they treated it after the twist

I don't understand how malicious doctors wouldn't have been equally as trite? The inclusion of the concentration camp was not trivial either. It was the prime cause for Teddy's alcoholism and emotional seperation from his wife. I still rank Shutter Island right up there with Scorcese's best films.

I agree with Ben's point on The Unborn though.

Well, I can't say it's too surprising that Floydian would be blamed for being critical, as... well, that's the reputation that Floydian has built for himself, fair or not.

But, to be fair, I searched and it was actually Frank Dracman who initially criticized the audio review. Also to be fair, once Foy explained that it wasn't initially meant to be heard by the public, he apologized.

Anyhow, I enjoyed the new DFF, as I always seem to do. I wish the lost DFF wasn't lost so that, amongst other things, we could've heard Foy's epic Legion rant. But, despite that I enjoyed the commentary on all those films, even though I haven't seen any theatrical horror films this year. I at least can give props to The Vindicator, which unfortunately isn't on DVD but sometimes you can see it on Fox Movie Channel if you have it. It's good stuff, and hey Stan Winston worked on it.

you know, i dont even mind the end to shutter island so much.

i was into it for a the whole movie. i loved his nightmare visions. some the imagery was nice and creepy.

i thought they even kind of played it like "maybe he wasnt crazy." he said his name was teddy. then there was the reveal where he was supposed to be eddy. and his partner called him teddy at the end.

I thought the part in the cave was going to take the movie in a different direction than what I hoped wasn't goin to be the actual ending. Still it is an excellent movie and I want to watch it again with a different mindset.

heres a spoiler heavy question, which im surprised no one brought up on the dinner for fiends....

so everyone takes part in the role playing. and everyone has a role as someone in the missing girl story and the crazy guy story. but the girl in the cave only shows up in the missing girl part of the story. so if he was really crazy, and it was all just a role playing exercise...then where is she in story? you only see her in the cave. you dont see her anywhere else.....

plus the whole teddy/eddy thing. thats in there for a reason. thats just a big a mistake to not mean something.

Does anyone else think Haute Tension would have been much better if they had a flashback to the beginning with the decapitated head giving head scene, and just panned up to show the lady being all,
"Ohh yeah, get it! get it! suck that cock!"

I think I want to watch it again first thing when it comes out on video.

The only way Haute Tension would work is if the twist were removed altoghter and it had just been a slasher flick of old without trying to be clever.

I agree with you, they shouldn't have had the twist. I'm just saying, it would have been funny cutting back and seeing the lady being all crazy as shit, thinking she had a dick.
Or hell, even seeing her not thinking she had a dick.
As long as there is a decapitated head, and oral sex, to me thats gold.

Anybody ever notice the DFF neon sign in Blade Runner?

EDIT

Not only is there a DFF neon sign but on the blimp it is advertising DFF World.

you know. im going to say i dont even mind the twist in haute tension. i had an uncut screener of this and i watched it late at night with some good headphones and i was horrified and digusted by the perfect marriage of sound and on screen violence.

i was left speechless. and that hadnt happened in.... ever maybe.

the 60 minutes of terror once the film started more than makes up for the bad ending.

I felt let down by the end because up until the reveal I thought it was a really good movie. That's why it upset me so much. I haven't seen it in a long time. Maybe I should rent it again.

i did too. there is no way around it. its a flawed movie, and not a perfect movie. but dont forget, this was probably the most brutal movie to come out in quite a bit. this was before saw even came out and ushered in the whole "torture porn" wave.

but if you watch it, in the dark, with some decent headphones, and you have a surround system....

I loved it too, until the ending which made very little sense.
How can she be hiding, if she is also killing people!
