I've always liked Patton Oswalt, and that video explains why. He makes a lot of sense.

All the reports I've been seeing today say that NBC settling on Conan departure with a large payoff. ....Well there goes the newfound glory of the Tonight Show actually being funny again. By the way, anyone see Jimmy Kimmel hand Jay Leno his ass last night on his own show (Leno's that is)? I just watched the clip on youtube. Fucking hilarious.... well Kimmel was. Leno was as dull as a board as usual. Hell, the other day, I posted a blog about this mess. I'll post the first half of it for you all to read.

This whole situation has me irate so I have to finally comment on it. NBC is either run by retards or extremely unintelligent monkeys. If they were smart, they would've gave the Tonight Show to David Letterman back when Johnny Carson was on his way out. But they handed it to Jay Leno and they lost Letterman to CBS. Since then Letterman has murdered NBC in the ratings when Leno was on. Why? Because Jay Leno is not funny in the least bit! He never has been funny, he never will be funny, and that's why no one has been watching The Jay Leno Show and why it's tanked. The only reason why people watched the Tonight Show when he was hosting was for the celebrity guests. But I always tuned into Late Night with Conan O'Brien after Leno's shitfest was over. Why? Because Conan's show was just complete anarchy! It took professionals to make that show look so unprofessional! That's the talent of CoCo's crew! They do things on purpose to make it look bad because they poke fun at everything! Plus, how can anyone not like the string dance? Also, I've seen tons of celebrities in years past say they prefer going on Conan's show over Leno's because it's fun and because he's hilarious. I've not heard one celebrity say anything like that about Leno.

That's my take on the whole situation. I wasn't sure about the ratings. I've been hearing Leno killed Letterman and vice versa so I dunno what to believe there. But Tonight Show ratings since this debacle started have skyrocketed and Leno's are continuing to free-fall into oblivion. NBC should take the hint. It's not Conan, it's Leno that needs to go. From what I hear Tonight Show ratings are at their highest in years right now. Even President Obama is on Team CoCo!

Boo! Jay Leno isn't funny so you're right about that one. But Conan is the king of funny on late night TV. Hell, I even say that he's better than Letterman.

I really don't find Letterman funny. The only time I watch the late night talk shows is when I can't watch anything else.

I'm thinking NBC competed against itself by creating Leno's 10pm show. Not too many people are going to watch both him and Conan.

Why doesn't Leno just make himself scarce? Is he really so desperate for attention that he can't just leave? I can't imagine too many people liking him after all this is over.

Leno knows the business, he knows how important having a good lead in is, so he snatched up the spot ahead of the Tonight Show and made it utter crap so Conan got stuck with a pos for a lead in.

And the whole he wasn't able to get things going in seven months, friggin Leno's numbers were utter crap for the first 22 months after he took over The Tonight Show. I know times in the industry have changed but still Leno got almost 2 years to turn things around and Conan only gets seven months? Fuck NBC.

Here's hoping Conan does indeed go to FOX and wipes the floor with Leno. It'd also be great if Letterman was Conan's final guest, and then in early February (when he comes back with new episodes), Letterman has Conan on as his first guest.

And a "non-disparagment clause"? Really? To paraphrase David Cross, are Jeff Zucker and his mouthbreathing cohorts six year olds? Answer: yes. I surmise there are ways around that insipid "clause".

Quote:
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Conan O'Brien has signed a deal that will seal his exit from NBC and (for now) the late-night talk show host game. That story's behind a subscriber-only wall, but MSNBC has the details, drawing from the Journal piece. So, pardon the report on the report on the report, but here's what we know of the deal now, which will probably be officially announced later today: O'Brien will walk away with $32 million. His staff, reportedly the final sticking point of the negotiations, will be given a total of $12 million. There is also apparently a non-disparagement clause included in the agreement, although its boundaries remain unclear (and will undoubtedly be pushed to their limit).

Thus, over 16 years and nearly 3000 episodes after he started, O'Brien ends his tenure hosting a talk show on NBC. His next move remains uncertain. Presumably he'll land somewhere that will treat him with more respect.

Methinks Kevin Reilly (formerly NBC Entertainment President - 2004-2007; currently FOX Entertainment President) and Peter Rice (formerly of Fox Searchlight Pictures, currently FOX President) will be having conversations with Conan this week.

Here's Kevin Reilly discussing the possibility of Conan having a late night show on FOX at the Television Critics Association press tour on January 11th.

I'm sure there are hurdles to jump, but I have a feeling they'll all be leapt over and Conan will have a show on FOX this autumn, IMHO.

Where ever Conan goes I'll follow.

And yes it's hilariously juvenile that he's forbidden to throw shots at the network or any individuals involved in the network. Wah he's mocking us! Wah!

These next two episodes will be nothing short of glorious. I only hope he decides to go out with a bang and brings Pimpbot back for a segment at least once before he's cancelled.

He just may. Last night he surprisingly brought the Masturbating Bear back. Also Triumph should appear again so should Preperation H Raymond. Sandler was hilarious last night and it looks like NBC hasn't stopped Conan from trashing the network as that's all him and Sandler did!! Adam Sandler: NBC, Nothin' But Cock! Hell, the night before, Conan and Tarantino talked about the art of strangling the NBC executives. Laughing

For that much money I think moving on and shutting up sounds like a swell idea.

First "Heroes" and now this. Add my voice to the "Fuck NBC" chorus.

And I love love love Patton Oswalt. I'd marry him and have his baby if he wasn't already married and didn't already have a baby. And if I was female.
