Five Perfect (HORROR) Movies [Mike’s Picks]

Earlier this morning, some of your favorite filmmakers weighed in with their Five Perfect Movies including Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man, Upgrade), James Gunn (Slither, Super), J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Rian Johnson (Looper, Knives Out), and Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Doctor Strange).

So we thought we’d weight in as well.

Here are Mike’s picks!

Alien

In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.

Green Room

A punk rock band becomes trapped in a secluded venue after finding a scene of violence. For what they saw, the band themselves become targets of violence from a gang of white power skinheads lead by Patrick Stewart who want to eliminate all evidence of the crime.

Jaws

When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.

Rosemary’s Baby

A young wife comes to believe that her offspring is not of this world. Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow) and her struggling actor husband Guy (John Cassavetes) move to a New York City apartment building with an ominous reputation and odd neighbors Roman and Minnie Castavet (Sidney Blackmer, Ruth Gordon). When Rosemary becomes pregnant she becomes increasingly isolated, and the diabolical truth is revealed only after Rosemary gives birth.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

When Sally (Marilyn Burns) hears that her grandfather’s grave may have been vandalized, she and her paraplegic brother, Franklin (Paul A. Partain), set out with their friends to investigate. After a detour to their family’s old farmhouse, they discover a group of crazed, murderous outcasts living next door. As the group is attacked one by one by the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen), who wears a mask of human skin, the survivors must do everything they can to escape.
