OK, so there's probably a thread on this somewhere, but I'm lazy and don't feel like digging it out.
Cover songs... what are your thoughts? What ones do you like, what ones do you hate? What KIND of covers do you like? Do you like covers that stick close to the original, or ones that go in a completely new direction?
Lately, I've been liking metalcore covers of pop songs, which is strange, because I really don't like metalcore OR pop, but A Static Lullaby's cover of Toxic by Brittney Spears is kind of hilarious, and kind of awesome. Attack Attack's cover of I Kissed a Girl by Katie Perry is great too. It goes really trance-ey and then has a hardcore breakdown for no reason at the end.
I generally like when bands stick fairly close to the original, but maybe update it a bit. Add electric guitar where there used to be none, things like that, but keep the riffs themselves the same.
Also, any song where they add death metal vocals, makes me smile. |

| Best cover I ever heard was Reel Big Fish doing a ska version of Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf". Genius and catchy as hell. |

The two covers I've been listening to lately are Roger Waters covering Knockin' On Heavens's Door and Rob Zombie's Brick House which are both great songs.
I'm dying to get my hands on Peter Gabriel's Scratch My Back album of cover tunes that comes out in a little over a month. |

I got excited when I saw the title of this thread. I thought you had made one on album covers. |

LOL yeah, I can see how it could read like that, considering how I worded it. |

I like tons of covers....I like when a band makes a cover their own but doesn't change the arrangement too much.
Like Slayer did in "Born to be Wild" (changed 'like a true natures child' to a 'like a true metal child')
...Slaves on Dope did that a lot, I liked their versions of War Pigs and Look What The Cat Dragged In.
But we will have to all agree that the best cover of all time (in terms of success) is Quiet Riot with Cum Feel The Noise. _________________ ? |
