Robert Englund Thinks 2010 NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Remake Was Premature

Samuel Bayer’s 2010 remake of Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger is now streaming over on Netflix. And today, original Freddy, Robert Englund says he thinks the remake was premature.

Englund tells Too Fab: “I know the remake on “A Nightmare on Elm Street” was was premature. We should have done another “Freddy vs. Jason” film and then waited, they should have waited for five or 10 years. And I think it’s the same thing with Child’s Play … I think they’re so part of the culture and they’re being rerun so much and they’re available on DVD. You pop up a Blu-ray, for instance, a Blu-ray with extras of “Freddy vs. Jason,” or “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare” and you put that on a 50 inch flat screen. It looks better than when it came out in the movies. And if you’re a 12-year-old boy and you’re introduced to it, you’ll love it. You get it. So we don’t need to go after that generation yet.”

Rated R for strong bloody horror violence, disturbing images, terror and language, the remake told the tale of teenagers Nancy, Quentin, Kris, Jesse, and Dean who are all neighborhood friends that begin having the same dream of a horribly disfigured man who wears a tattered sweater and a glove made of knives. The man (Jackie Earle Haley) terrorizes them in their dreams, and the only escape is to wake up. But when one of their own dies violently, the friends realize that what happens in the dream world is real, and the only way to stay alive is to stay awake.
