GRETEL & HANSEL Scores $6M Opening Weekend … And That’s Not a Bad Thing

The Blackcoat’s Daughter and I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in the House director Oz Perkins’ Gretel & Hansel with Sophia Lillis was unleashed into theaters this past weekend.

And today we learned via The Numbers that the flick opened in fourth place with $6M … And that’s NOT bad thing considering the movie only cost a reported $5 million to produce. Hell, it made its money back and more in one weekend! Congrats Perkins!

The story is described as being set a long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside and focuses on a young girl (Sophia Lillis) who leads her little brother (Sam Leakey) into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.

It stars Sophia Lillis (It: Chapter Two) as Gretel and Sam Leakey as Hansel. Charles Babalola (The Legend of Tarzan) joins as The Hunter with Alice Krige (Sleepwalkers) as The Witch.

Gretel & Hansel is directed by Oz Perkins. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, and Dan Kagan produced. Perkins wrote the screenplay with Rob Hayes based on Hansel and Gretel by The Brothers Grimm. Orion Pictures’ new nightmare is NOW PLAYING.
