Paraguayan Thriller MORGUE Getting US Reboot via Arrival Screenwriter Eric Heisserer

Paraguayan thriller Morgue is getting an English-language “re-imagining” from A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) and Final Destination 5 screenwriter turned producer Eric Heisserer.

Deadline reports that it centers on a freelance security guard who is assigned to cover a night shift at the hospital after hitting someone with his car and fleeing the scene. As you might imagine, while on shift that night, he discovers the body of his victim in the morgue. Moo-Haha. And as the night progresses, he is tormented by his guilt… or something more sinister.

The original was written, produced, and directed by Hugo Cardozo “based on real events.” The flick spent two weeks as the Number 1 film in Paraguay where it opened back in August. Cardozo and Guido Rud will serve as executive producers on the English-language remake.

On top of writing the above-mentioned fifth entry in the Final Destination series and 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Heisserer is best known for penning such films as the remake of John Carpenter’s The Thing with Mary Elizabeth Winstead along with Lights Out, Arrival, Bird Box, and the upcoming action flick Bloodshot with Vin Diesel.
