Blumhouse’s INVISIBLE MAN May Snag $40M Opening Weekend

Blumhouse and writer-director Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man will be creeping into a theater near you next month. And today we’re hearing that the film is projected to snag an opening weekend haul of $20 – 40 million.
According to Box-Office Pro, the pros to the film’s success include star Elisabeth Moss’s “notable presence” given her success in The Handmaid’s Tale, Blumhouse’s strong track record, and the “very positive” word-of-mouth generated by the killer trailer a few months back.
Add to that, the combination of high production value, IP that’s familiar to adult audiences, and Blumhouse’s The Invisible Man could be a breakout hit this season.
That said, they list the CONS as having to follow in the crowded horror footsteps of Brahms: The Boy 2, Fantasy Island, Gretel and Hansel, The Turning, Underwater, and The Grudge.
Well, maybe not The Grudge.

In this version, Elisabeth Moss plays a woman trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist. She escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister, their childhood friend, and his teenage daughter. But when her abusive ex dies by suicide and leaves her a portion of his fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turn lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, her sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.
Blumhouse’s The Invisible Man is written and directed by Leigh Whannell who also executive produces. Jason Blum and Kylie du Fresne produce. It haunts theatres on February 28, 2020.
