Didn't See It Coming

Way back when I had only a 360 I was reading and issue of Game Informer that had a little article on a game coming out for the PS3 called Uncharted. Just from seeing the pictures and reading that article I knew I wanted to play it. I finally got a PS3 and the first game I played was Uncharted. I instantly fell in love with it. Rarely do I get so engaged with the characters and voice acting in a video game (oddly enough the last time I was THAT in love with a game was the criminally underplayed Primal which is also a Sony exclusive). The gameplay was addictive and fun and the story sucked me right in like a fun, breezey summer popcorn movie. I played it 4 times and never once got bored much like rewatching a favourite film.

2 LONG years later and I finally got the sequel I wanted. Uncharted 2 is without a doubt one of the best games I've ever played. The characters, the story, the graphics, the gameplay. All gel together into one truly amazing package. I really hope that one day there is some sort of prestigious award for actors in video games because everyone here is fantastic. It's funny, shocking, thrilling and funny all over again. At one point I had to pause the game because I was laughing so hard and this was DURING the game, not a cut scene.

This game has so many jaw dropping set-pieces as well. Only a few platforming sections wore on me (but that's me because I find traversal to be the weakest part of these kinds of games. The two chapters that take place on the moving train are easily going to be moments I go back to again and again.

If you're reading this you most likely know that the graphics are amazing as well. This is one beautiful game.

All in all, this is a game that urge everyone who owns a PS3 to play. Even if you didn't enjoy the first one, Uncharted 2 trumps it in almost every way. Rent it if you don't want to spend the money. EVERYONE should play this game.

10/10

P.S. I haven't even touched the multiplayer and co-op yet.

I'm trying to decide whether to pick up this, Demon Souls, or Brutal Legend but right now I'm leaning towards this -- you're echoing the praise I've read about it on just about every other site.

My interest in Brutal Legend plummeted when I read it has a heavy focus on RTS which is a genre I can't stand. Plus a lot of sites I respect said it mixes too many things but is merely OK at all of them. I was going to rent it today but decided against it because I'm going to play more Uncharted.

Speaking of which, I played co-op today and it was a blast. My buddy and I were trapped in a room when an enemy dropped a live grenade and we were both trying to get out the same door. Luckily we jumped away in time but for a second it was hilarious.

God I love this game.

Played through it a second time to unlock more trophies. Still awesome. #3 will be sometime this weekend, most likely Sunday.

This is a great game. Better than the 1st one in everyway. What a sequel should do.
