My old pals Scott Kelly and Dave Ed have returned to motherfucking form! OH HELL YES! This is the NEUROSIS album I have been waiting almost a decade to hear. A full on return to the SOULS AT ZERO style that was so damned crushingly heavy.

Early contender for Album Of The Year. I really cannot reccomend this highly enough.

Anybody check this monster disc out yet?

Neurosis... they play some sort of monumentally bleak and depressive death/thrash metal, right?

NO.
It's monumental, and bleak.
But not thrash/death at all. Just crushingly heavy. Think "Death Church" era RUDIMENATRY PENI/"Arise" era AMEBIX/fucked up soundtrack music and you start to get the idea.

Nobody else here who claims "punk" listens to these guys? They embody everything about the "p" ethic. And are constantly stretching their own boundries.

Again. HIGHLY reccomended.

Neurosis are quite similar in style to Cult of Luna aren't they?

May need to check out some of their stuff.

Ouch. It's similar, yes, but Neurosis are the ones inspiring Cult Of Luna, not the other way around. Neurosis started as a punk band, and grew darker, heavier, and far more epic and intense. I'd say if you like The Swans, or bands like Cult Of Luna / Isis then yeah, you need to hear this shit.

Neurosis are the reason i'm into metal, yes they're prog but still they are heavy too, Given to The rising is beautiful, love it to pieces. and Cult of Luna do sound kinda simliar, but very diffrerent, Luna use almost death metal growls.

Cult Of Luna aren't fit to eat the peanuts out of Neurosis' poop.

To put it lightly.
