I just saw some pirate metal last night. Quite amazing. For those into metal, especially mild/novelty death metal, you shall enjoy this. They definitely have a pirate sound to them whilst still being heavy and near death metal. Check out Verbal Deception at http://www.myspace.com/verbaldeception

They came all the way from Calgary, Alberta to St. Paul, MN to play for about 8 people. I hope the rest of their tour is more successful.

There's also the thrash band Swashbuckle and the newer Power Metal group Alestorm playing Pirate Metal.

And of course, you have the grandfathers of the genre in Running Wild, so it's not a unique genre, just not a common one.

For those of you who have XM, the channel Liquid Metal will be having a special on this genre this Saturday at 3:00 EST, where it will be nothing but songs based on Pirates or pirate-themed metal groups. They'll play Verbal Decaption, Swashbuckle, Alestorm, Running Wild, Scurvy, Amored Saint and much, much more.

HOLY SHIT!...Another Verbal-D fan!!!

Verbal Deception is IN-FREAKING-CREDIBLE!...Aurum Aetus Piraticus was my favorite release from 2007.

I've listened to Aelstorm and Swashbuckle as well, but Verbal does it better.

WOW, I'm still surprised someone else digs 'em....

EDIT: I just realized the OP is from 2006...which is funny 'cause I was all like, "I don't think they are on tour right now??"....

Anyway, everyone should check this band out...I think my favorite song is Voyage...but there are many good songs on their album.
