Taika Waititi’s AKIRA Live-Action Remake Gets 2021 Release Date

A month-and-a-half ago, we posted news that Warner Bros. was finally moving forward with their live-action remake of Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira. The long-awaited project has been in the works since the early 2000s and Deadline is reporting an official release date has finally been set: May 21, 2021.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson through their Appian Way banner, the film will be based on the six-volume series Otomo released in the 80s. The film has already secured an $18.5 million tax credit in California.
