He did The Howling, as well, right?
That's right he did. I was trying to remember what other one he did.

I love how this film just takes you further into hell. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse from being chased by a guy with a chainsaw it does. It gets much worse.
Yeah. I also like that her sole goal in the film is to survive and escape. Far too many horror films morph into action movies at the end, when the protagonist decides they have to fight, or save someone or save the world from evil by blowing up the bad guy. In this, she just wants to get away with her life. I think that's part of why this movie is as effective as it is.

i think it helps that all her friends are dead, there's no one left to save
She could have decided, after seeing the abuse he took, that the hitchiker was mentally deficient and battered and needed to be turned over to social services.

doubt it after the incident in the car

The close-up of Leatherface cutting his leg on the chainsaw was the last shot to be filmed; the actor was wearing a metal plate over his leg, which was then covered with a piece of meat and a blood bag. When the chainsaw hit the metal it heated it up which made Gunner Hansen think his leg had actually been cut into.

That cut to black in mid-motion with the chainsaw blaring is just perfect. It still gets me every time I see this movie.
