Insiders Describe Hellish HELLBOY Production

Early reviews are in for Neil Marshall’s Hellboy–and they aren’t good. At the time of this posting, the film holds a pitiable 13% Freshness Rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Now that people’s hopes for something fantastic are being dashed, the behind-the-scenes finger pointing has started–with a vengeance.
Anonymous insiders have told The Wrap what went down on the set of Hellboy, and it sounds literally hellish. You’ll definitely want to read the article in its entirety, but here are the highlights.
Producer Lloyd Levin asserted himself as the man in charge, often overriding the direction of Neil Marshall in front of the cast and crew.
Hellboy star David Harbour would often walk off set, refusing Marshall’s requests for additional takes. This is something Harbour’s reps deny.
Reports suggest the script was constantly undergoing rewrites, and that Harbour and fellow actor Ian McShane personally conducted their own rewrites.
The article describes a prolonged argument between Marshall and Levin over a tree, specifically whether or not it should appear symmetrical.
Marshall handed the film off to producers for a final cut; he was never offered the opportunity to weigh in on the final product.
Still, it’s important to remember that Rotten Tomatoes isn’t the end-all-be-all of film assessments and that turbulent productions often yield masterful results. Hellboy arrives in US theaters tomorrow (April 12th) and tonight in many markets. Check out the synopsis and trailer below.
