Original CHILD’S PLAY Director Weighs In On Mark Hamill as the New Voice of Chucky

In an announcement that turned quite a few heads this weekend, Orion revealed that the A-List actor they had hired as the new voice of Chucky for their upcoming Child’s Play reboot is none other than pop-cultural icon Mark Hamill. While some of us aren’t certain that Child’s Play needs a reboot at this time, Hamill’s participation has certainly inspired a lot of curiosity.

We know original Child’s Play scribe Don Mancini is perturbed by the entire reboot, so don’t expect him to hype Hamill’s new gig, but what about the director of the first Child’s Play? Actually, Tom Holland did more than simply direct Child’s Play in 1988, he revamped the script to include many of the elements we now consider intigral to the franchise.

So how does Holland feel about Hamill as the new voice of Chucky? He told his Twitter followers this weekend that he thinks it’s a “smart move”.

Child’s Play is directed by Lars Klevberg; in addition to Hamill as Chucky, the film stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman. Look for Child’s Play in US theaters begining June 21st. Check out the synopsis and trailer below.

Synopsis:
A mother gives her son a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

Do you agree with Tom Holland that hiring Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky was a smart move on the part of Orion? Are you excited to see the rebooted Child’s Play this Summer? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!
