Going back and listening to all of their albums, and they get better each time. The only metal band I would place ahead of them all time would be Iron Maiden, just because of how influential they were, but I still enjoy listening to In Flames more.

They were good up to Soundtrack to Your Escape, when they thought it would be a great idea to sound exactly like Korn.

I'm convinced so-called 'Stoner Rock' is the last true bastion of decent metal riffage.

Prove me wrong.

Amon Amarth.

Soundtrack really sounded nothing like Korn, can't even see the comparison. That being said, it was easily their weakest album. Their last two have been better.

I have been digging the new album a lot, it's pretty solid.

I didn't like it at first, but it's grown on me.

Yeah, at first only a couple of songs stuck out at me, but with each successive listen I like it more.

In Flames are a good band. The new album is their best since RTR IMO...

...but greatest metal band of all time, hardly.

Metal Come Lately nOOb alert!

Smile

In Flames are farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr from being the greatest metal band of all time. And the fact that they tried to morph into some weird KORN clone band is unforgivable.

Like I said before, I really don't believe any comparisons to Korn are valid at all. Second - name me 5 metal bands that are clearly better and tell me why.

Believe what you want. I know people close to the band as well as the guys who were running their record company at the time. Good or bad, like it or lump it, they were put on the Nu-Metal train and they packed their bags gladly at an attempt to cash in.

As far as better bands, the list is nearly endless. Here's a start...and if you want to know the "why" of it all just listen to the albums.

AT THE GATES (the originators of the Gothenburg sound)
BLACK SABBATH (vintage era)
CARCASS
MERCYFUL FATE (vintage era)
METALLICA (vintage era)
the almighty motherfucking EXODUS

There are about a thousand others as well. Not to say IN FLAMES weren't good at one point. But hey, regardless of my thoughts enjoy your honeymoon. If they rock your boat that hard more power to you. It's not like you're here calling STRATOVARIUS the best metal band ever...and for that I thank you.

Soundtrack bordered on Nu-metal, but their albums afterward haven't been Nu-metalish at all. Nu-metal or not, they never sounded anything like Korn. Will discuss further at a later date.
