It does raise some interesting questions.

It's only an episode in.

Gotta say, I'm digging the season so far. While a lot of the stuff they're doing takes sort of huge liberties with the initial concept, the characters are so engaging that it's pretty easy to forgive.

I'm not sure about this whole baby thing. Usually introducing a pregnancy means the writers are running out of ideas. But I do love what they're doing with Smits. His character is velly interesting indeed!

I think the pregnancy fits in pretty well with the way they've been exploring Dexter's feelings about family though. It sort of confronts Dexter with the messiness and instability of real life the way the marriage angle did in the books, so it could work. I wish they would go with the Cody & Astor storyline from the books - but I know that will never happen.

Wow, everyone's been absent from this thread. I as well.

I had a feeling this is where we've been heading all along. It looks like Dexter's going to tread carefully before rendering his final decision re: Miguel. And Miguel's going to attempt to play two trump cards by getting close to LaGuerta and toying with her emotions and starting an ethics probe on Deb.

And whither George King? I think he's going to be trickier to catch then they think.

I'm really enjoying this season. It's far removed from the "wait until the season finale for the big reveal/arc denouement" of the past two seasons but it's working out wonderfully.

You'll almost never hear me say this, but the show is so much better than the book.

The show is better than the books. But the books nail what the author is aiming for in 300 pages; the TV series gets to flesh out the supporting characters and their arcs in ways a short novel could never do.

When the season first started, I was pretty hot and cold -- the pregnancy thing kind of bugged me, and I wasn't buying into Smits' character all that much. But the last few episodes won me over 100%, especially this past Sunday -- holy cow! I can't wait for the finale even if it does mean I won't get another Dexter fix for several months.

While this season has had plenty of great character moments, it's been a long haul for a rather predictable arc. The "Skinner" stuff wasn't handled very well and I was left a bit cold with how they wrapped up Miguel. There could've been a whole lot more drama there.

The finale certainly looks interesting though.
