CANDYMAN Star Joins SWAMP THING Series

In 1992, Virginia Madsen faced down a hook-handed, bee-infested Tony Todd in the movie Candyman, based on a short story by Clive Barker. In 2019, the lauded actress will go toe-to-toe with a different kind of monster in DC/Warner Bros Television’s Swamp Thing series, currently in pre-production. Deadline broke the news that Madsen has been cast as former socialite Maria Sunderland.

Synopsis:
Written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman, Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.

Swamp Thing is also being produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster; original Swamp Thing creator Len Wiseman is set to direct. According to Deadline:

“Madsen will play Maria Sunderland, who traded in her privileged upbringing for the swamps of Marais when she married local business magnate Avery Sunderland (not yet cast), but Avery’s lifetime obsession with the swamp has driven a wedge between him and Maria. Her poised existence is shaken further when the return of Abby Arcane reawakens a deep grief over the loss of Maria’s daughter, Shawna, drawing her into the dark supernatural mysteries emerging from the swamp.”

We’ll keep you posted on all Swamp Thing-related news as details emerge. Stay tuned!
