Since when has this sequel been given the go-ahead, and why haven't I heard anything about it?

They're already auctioning off a set visit:

You'd think, if they were this confident that the franchise is to go forward, we'd have at least heard a few rumors about who's coming in to replace Raimi ... if not the entire original cast.

The fourth film was decided the second they had a boffo opening weekend on the third one. We may not have liked that film, but it made rivers of cash.

Expect Raimi to return, along with most everyone else. The studio is courting them HEAVILY.

The movie is scheduled for release in 2011.

I hope Raimi has enough sense to realize he's done all he could have done with the franchise and turns them down.

Especially if he and Ivan have indeed already begun work on that Evil Dead 4 script. 'Cause that would be pretty tits.

Bring it! I sure as hell don't want Spidey 3 to be the swan song.

I'll give you that.

I'm still trying to pretend it never happened.

As long as Spider-Man 4 is a palate cleanser, I'm there.

If it's like its predecessor then to quote Bill Clinton from last night, "thanks but no thanks."

I hope Spider-Man 4's plot is Mephisto-free.

Spider-man 3 suffers most from Raimi having to include a character he just doesn't care for. That and considering his work like A Simple Plan and The Gift, it had a surprisingly weak dark side of Spider-man/Parker. He can obviously DO dark, but having Spider-man be a high school level jerk? Seriously?

It's not as terrible as the fan hyperbole makes it out to be. Some were even saying "worst movie of the year" which is ridiculous (Transformers made this one look like Citizen-Fucking-Kane).

It has a lot of great moments and I was totally with it for the first half, but the whole thing becomes a giant mess when too many plots are introduced. And anything concerning "the symbiote" is downright awful. Spidey deserves better.

That's the problem with Spider-Man 3, Spidey is NOT a dark character like Batman is. If they had given Venom his own movie instead of cramming him into the Harry Osborn revenge/Sandman storyline it would've flowed a lot better.

It wasn't the worst movie of the year but after the greatness of Spider-Man 2 it was a complete disaster.
