Any fans? These guys bring metal back to heavy metal. As long as there are bands like this around there is hope. I hate the death metal and nu metal that is taking over with their gutteral vocals and horrible musicianship. I like my metal to be melodic. I also appreciate actually understanding the lyrics.

This band does absolutely nothing for me.

I take it from looking around at this forum that not too many people like to discuss music around here. It's one of my passions along with film. Although I suppose if I started a Rob Zombie thread it'd see some action. Laughing

I listened to 4 songs on youtube. This is why I stopped buying cds 10+ years ago.Was a huge "stoner" in the 80's, even have Stone Cold Crazy on tape. For all the trouble I had tracking it down, it must be worth something. Hardly anything after 1995 has caught my interst at all. Goodbye, Metallica, you were once gods, now I just laugh at you. Ministry, the same goes for you. Megadeth somehow keeps my attention. where's Sepultura when you need them? Hell, I'll bust out Skid Row before I listen to anything Nickelback *coughfagscough* does.
Pay no attention the the jaded, cranky bastard known as Frank. Dana Carvey said it best when he said "back in my day...". Now where's my goddamn slippers?!

I know a guy who used to do sound for Ministry. He's got alot of stories about how they used to come into the studio get completely fucked up and then start recording. That was back when they were good. Now they're just freaking horrible. I haven't given up on Metallica yet. St. Anger might not have been good but it was at least a step in the right direction. I'd still take St. Anger over pretty much any of these new metal bands that Best Buy likes to promote. The kids just eat that shit up. Megadeth is still making good music today.

The last new band I discovered that totally blew me away was Porcupine Tree. Not metal. Progressive rock. I miss Pink Floyd. Gilmour's latest is pretty sweet though. Roger Waters was supposed to be making a rock album after that opera bullshit he did but I haven't heard anything about it. Yeah I'm pretty much stuck in the past too. Iron Maiden.

Drugs. Making music better since 1962!

Speaking of drugs: When it comes to metal bands named after extinct pachyderms, I much prefer these Italian acidheads.

Just more stoner sludge for hipster douchebags to pretend they like.

Along those lines System Of A Down suck ass, too. Sorry to break your hearts, posers.

I'd rather listen to any Wildhearts album a dozen times in a row than this flat, off-time nonsense.

Mastadon.

Everyone in the metal press was blowing their wads over this band. I got the album and was deeply unimpressed.

If I want stoner metal it doesn't get any better than Kyuss, even though Josh Homme has become an absolute rock star dickhead.

I like Mastodon, but I'm not a huge fan. The drumming is amazing, though, and is a sight to see live. Lyrically, I find the band very interesting.

I look forward to the new album.

Let the flaming commence.

Is there another person out there who is a fan of this band

I think I'm alone but they keep pumping out new CD's for me on a regular basis.

Seriously though they're a good band. I buy every CD tyhey hAVE. What can I say it's relaxing and good and sometimes kickass.

Most of the music I listen to is dark and introspective. If you listened to In Absentia from Porcupine Tree it's sounds all upbeat but the lyrics are really dark.

Anyway Anybody else listen to them?

I can take it. Lay it on me.

Not anymore. Crack the Skye was kind of a let down. Although, I've only heard it once.

I did, however, see them live, back in '02 (or was it '01?) playing in the back room of a local record store. Space was just barely bigger than my fucking living room. That was a hell of a show, and one of the few I still brag about to this day.

I posted on the other the thread that asked if there was anything out there worth listening to, and I said the new Mastodon. I'm enjoying Crack the Skye, but I get how it is not for everyone. I play guitar and I can appreciate the complexity of the music. I'm not a huge lyric guy, so I don't pay that much attention in that department.

I also like the newest Metallica and Slipknot albums and some people still seem to hate them, so I guess my opinion isn't going to matter to many. I also dig Porcupine Tree. I haven't heard much of their material, but I think Fear of a Blank Planet is a brilliant song!

I'll talk music all day to anyone who wants to start a thread. I'm not a conversation starter, but I'll definitely join in.
