Having played the game, I am a bit confused as to why this is getting straight 10s everywhere. Could IGN, GameSpot and others be in fear of having advertising dollars pulled if these super-hyped title were to get anything less than a 9.5?

Admittedly, the production values are excellent and some of the game play is enjoyable, I can't help but feel that I've spent more time watching overly complicated cut-scenes than actually being Snake.

Unlike previous MG games, I felt no need to actually sneak around. What went wrong here? Why can I suddenly either A) Run around to an alternate route and bypass everything or B) Run and gun my way to the objective? What is satisfying with being in and out of a particular zone within a couple minutes?

I still have all the gear I picked up during the first act! All these sweet new gagdets are now available, but not once was there a feeling that I'd need to use them to save my life or progress through the game.

Don't look at me, I've never really liked the series. The NES ones were ok, but the one on the PS1 was incredible, groundbreaking stuff. After that, just felt like more of the same. My problem with MGS3 was all the cut-scenes. Get to the action, alrealy! If 4 is worse than that, count me out. I'll go play Bioshock again.

The game is getting 10's because it's an incredible achievement in gaming. No, you don't have to sneak around, but you can and the game rewards you for it. I love the variety of approaches this time out. Instead of memorizing a route and getting through it like the first 2 games.

Yeah, I can see why one might feel like you watched it more than you played it, such is the existence of MGS as a series. At least there were far less Codec messages than in the previous games. I do agree that the cutscenes are often overly complicated, but again, it's a series staple.

There is some great writing in those cut-scenes. As well as some hammy acting.

MGS 4 is much more of an experience than any other game I've played. I was blown away.

The series was dear to me, but MGS4's cutscenes became so long and boring that I actually passed out during one. Hell, I passed out during the final cutscene after doing the old man tango with Liquid Ocelot.
