If you've never seen YOR, HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE and you have Turner Classic Movies then tonight is your night to experience YOR, one of the all-time great bad movies. An early 80's Italian-Turkish co-production starring Reb Brown as a Spicoli-looking nomad roaming prehistoric lands in search of the truth of his origin. Toss in cavemen, dinosaurs, laser gun shootouts, hangliding with pterodactyls, robot minions in Darth Vader helmets, death by candy cane impalement, and perhaps the greatest theme song in bad movie history and you get YOR, HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE!

Tonight on TCM at 2:30 AM Central Standard Time!

Actual quote from the director many years later after being asked by an interviewer about YOR: "It's awful It's so awful. I mean, have you seen it?"

Hey, thanks a lot, man. I haven't seen that one in years. Setting my VCR now.

I am intensely proud to say that I saw YOR upon its 1983 theatrical release. Nothing beats the memory of hearing that... "song" pumping out of theater speakers or seeing Reb Brown facing off against John Steiner on a big screen.

The director, Antonio Margheriti, never did another film that rivaled the sheer awfulness of YOR -- indeed, he actually did quite a few decent exploitation films before it.

I guess the stars aligned perfectly for this one.

Just set my Tivo, damn right.

I'm right there with you. My mom took me to see it as a little kid. She hated, my sister hated it, and I also knew it was quite terrible even at the time but I've never forgotten it and grown to appreciate it for what it is.

Speaking of that glorious theme song...

Thanks for the heads up there, Foy. Also, at midnight on IFC, Madman is on. Good night for 80's cheese.

Yor is no Ator.

Ator, however, lacks the theme song.

Decision: Yor.

No, that's wrong. Ator didn't need a theme song.

Just a glider.

But Yor uses a pterodactly as a glider in one scene.

Decision: still Yor

The Beastmaster will have something to say about all this.

The Beastmaster is armed with attack ferrets so maybe, just maybe, he might be superior to Yor. He also got to travel through time to modern Los Angeles and had that hilarious "I Wanna Be Your Hero" song at the end of Part 2. Hmmm... I must ponder this further.

Normally, the Beastmaster (Dar to his buddies) would have plenty to say. Unfortunately, he's a little too busy squaring off against Hawk the Slayer.

Hawk the Slayer never went to Gor. However, I think the Sword and the Sorcerer did.

We won't even bring up Deathstalker.
