Not necessarily horror, but a great read anyway. Just something trippy about a book that basically reads from back to front and you know what happens in the end. This was one I couldn't put down. I just had to know what led to the demise of the main character.
Has anyone else read this one? or any other books by Palahniuk... Recommendations? |

I read Survivor a few years ago after I got bit in the ass by the Fight Club bug (film version). I decided to check out this author and Survivor was the latest offering at the time.
Like you, I couldn't put it down either and ended up reading right through it in about 4 days. It's been awhile so I can't point out all the details, but I remember grooving to the style (the whole backwards story was before Memento came out). I remember the beginning with the narrator having the same number as a suicide hotline all the shit that stemmed form that and the whole development of a "cult icon" out of him and the shenanigans involved.
Fun read.
Anybody check out his latest which looks more horror/thriller about a group of writers trying to outdo the next in a scary story or whatever. Don't know the title, passed by it in the book strore a while back.

Good to see there are others out there that liked the book as much as I did. I'm not a big Palahniuk fan, I just happened to read the synopsis on the back of the cover and thought it would be a trippy book.
EvilRex: Would love to get the title of that book if you get a hold of the name. Sounds like something I would like to read. |

can understand that alien. It was really weird at first trying to understand where the story was going. It was also kinda slow in the beginning, but it picked up in the middle and was faster after that. |

The new on is called HAUNTED. And it has the story "Guts" that was in Playboy a year or so ago. It's basically a novel of short stories.
My favorite one is Lullaby. It's about an ancient poem that kills someone if you read it and think about them. Of course, the lead character accidentally memorizes the poem and starts to kill people without meaning to.
As with all of Chuck's books, there are several little storylines that coincide with the main story. He's a little weird, but very enjoyable.
If you like Bret Easton Ellis, than you'll probably like Chuck.

Survivor was awesome. I love the non-linear story line.
My favorite by Chuck, however, is Fight Club. By far his best, and shortest. I didn't like Choke the first read through(probably because I took a vacation in the middle of the book), but this last time I enjoyed it. Not as much as Survivor.
Invisible Monster is awesome too. Probably my second favorite by him. Lullaby was a fast and entertaining read. Haven't read Diary or Haunted yet, but I've chose to neglect Haunted. Too many damn bad reviews and besides, I already read Guts. |

You guys should check out his non fiction. Stranger than fiction starts out almost like a porno shoot. Very naughty.
