Did You Spot Man-Thing In Thor: Ragnarok?

Thor: Ragnarok is set to rake in untold amounts of cash for Disney, and eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed that one of Marvel’s most respected horror characters makes an appearance in the film. Kind of.
If you look carefully at the exterior shot of the Grandmaster’s palace on the planet Sakaar, you can see statues of previous winners of the Contest of Champions. Among there are well known Marvel characters Beta Ray Bill, Bi-Beast, and, you’ve guessed it, Man-Thing.
In a quote provided by MovieWeb, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige stated that the Easter eggs in the film were included to celebrate Marvel’s rich comic history, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll be explored in more detail in later films. Which seemed to be his way of saying that we probably won’t be seeing Man-Thing make a proper appearance in the MCU anytime soon, but I guess seeing him as a statue is better than nothing.

In the 616 Marvel Comics universe, Man-Thing was a scientist named Theodore Sallis who transformed into a hideous swamp creature after being injected with a formula which was indented to replicate Captain America’s Super-Soldier Serum. He went on to be a major character for Marvel, and was even given his own miniseries published by their adults-only MAX imprint.
Man-Thing was also the star of his own R-rated movie distributed by Lionsgate, and made an appearance in last year’s spooky animated feature Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell. More recently, Goosebumps author R. L. Stine scripted a five issue Man-Thing miniseries, and you can buy the trade paperback here.
Thor: Ragnarok is out now in the UK, and opens in the US on November 3, 2017. The film was directed by Taika Waititi, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Idris Elba, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins.
