If a modern-day story focused on a descendant of “Blood Countess” Elizabeth Bathory sounds up your alley, then you’ll want to read on for the early details of a TV adaptation of bestselling author Tosca Lee’s The Progeny.

Edward Burns’ Marlboro Road Gang Productions is teaming with Radar Pictures to develop The Progeny for television. Per Deadline, Burns and his producing partner, Aaron Lubin, will executive produce alongside Radar’s Ted Field, Michael Napoliello, Mike Weber, and producer Maria Frisk. A search is currently under way for a writer.

No word yet on which network it’s heading to (CBS had another Bathory show in the works back in 2015), but we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, here’s the novel’s synopsis:

A modern twist to an ancient mystery surrounding Elizabeth Bathory, the most notorious female serial killer of all time…

Emily Jacobs is the descendant of a serial killer. Now, she’s become the hunted.

Emily is on a quest that will take her to the secret underground of Europe and the inner circles of three ancient orders–one determined to kill her, one devoted to keeping her alive, and one she must ultimately save.

Filled with adrenaline, romance, and reversals, The Progeny is the present-day saga of a 400-year-old war between the uncanny descendants of “Blood Countess” Elizabeth Bathory, the most prolific female serial killer of all time, and a secret society dedicated to erasing every one of them. It is a story about the search for self filled with centuries-old intrigues against the backdrop of atrocity and hope.
