In space no one can hear you say, “Goddamnit! We ran out of Mountain Dew!” Well, maybe the other crew mates on your ship would, but by that time they have probably already gone space crazy and are hiding in the kitchen cabinets with pots over their heads.
28 Days Later director Danny Boyle is swinging back into action after nearly three years out of the chair in order to bring us the newest Fox Searchlight film Sunshine. No, this isn’t another one of those cute little indie films based around a dysfunctional family. Sunshine takes a darker look at life … or the end of all life on Earth to be more frank.
The year is 2057, and the sun is on the verge of death. Humans are ready to do anything in order to preserve their way of life, and the only solution to be found is sending a team of 8 people out into space to kick-start the old star with a nuclear device. Aboard the Icarus II the crew receives a distress call from a sister ship, Icarus I, that departed several years earlier for the same cause but vanished. The attempted rescue of the older ship puts the Icarus II crew into danger, and not everyone can cope with the pressure.
While this may sound a bit like The Core, judging by the trailer and stills, the overall quality of the project looks at least 10x better. We will find out for sure on July 20th when the film hits theatres.
