Over the years podcasts have quickly become one of the single most interesting bits of new media this generation has seen. Some talk news and opinion, and some … well, some tell tales of terror the old fashioned way. Ever wonder what sitting in on your favorite podcast or radio drama would be like? Some zombie fans in particular are about to find out.

From the Press Release
The zombie-action radio show “WE’RE ALIVE – A ZOMBIE STORY OF SURVIVAL” has been winning over audiences and racking up awards while single-handedly reviving the radio drama format. The brain-child of co-creators/producers Shane Salk and Kc Wayland and currently in its second season, the show marries old time radio drama with modern day explosions.

On April 16th, the “We’re Alive” actors are gathering for “In The Flesh Performance of We’re Alive,” a special one-time only LIVE performance at Meltdown Comics (7522 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90046) and presented by the Nerdist Podcast.

In addition to the recorded episodes, the show has an online fan forum, Wiki page, and a 4-minute documentary which have earned it a very active fan base who also participate by making zombie and character artwork and even mock trailers.

Along with earning loyal fans, “We’re Alive” has garnered several awards, including a Golden Ogle Award, a Communicator Award, and the recently announced Dead Letter Award for Best Audio Drama. The show has been highly ranked on numerous online outlets, including being the #1 podcast on Zune and #1 Performing Arts Podcasts on iTunes.

“We’re Alive” follows three reserve soldiers called back to duty when a small riot in Los Angeles spreads past its containment. Believed to be the last remaining armed servicemen in the area, the trio witnesses the true cause of the riot; people are starting to change and attack each other. Armed with only what they can carry, they set out to rescue survivors scattered amongst the shattered remains of civilization.

The first season contained 37 episodes and premiered on May 4, 2009; the second season, currently on the 58th episode, will continue to roll out new chapters through July 2011. The show is directed by Wayland and stars Salk, alongside a slew of other voices including: Jim Gleason, Michael Swan, Nate Geez, Elisa Eliot, Claire Dodin and voice-over veteran Bob Bergen.

As to the success of the show, Salk explains, “It’s due not only to the quality of the project, but also to the public’s desire to not just see spectacle but also use their imaginations again.”
