It’s been years since last we heard anything about the Angela Bettis flick Scar 3D, but lo and behold you’ll be getting a chance to finally see the movie a lot sooner than you think. This Friday to be exact!

From the Press Release
Berry Meyerowitz, President & CEO of Phase 4 Films, announced today the landmark launch of director Jed Weintrob’s 3D horror film, SCAR, the first ever stereoscopic, 3D, video-on-demand film release via all major cable broadcasters on Friday, October 1, 2010. The 3D film will be available to consumers who own 3D HDTV sets and liquid crystal shutter glasses. Phase 4 will also offer a traditional 2D version of SCAR on VOD on the same day.

SCAR is the horrific tale of a small town urban legend that becomes a modern day nightmare. Years ago, Joan Burrows became a victim of Ernie Bishop, a crazed undertaker with a penchant for mutilating young girls in his hidden morgue torture chamber. Joan escaped Bishop’s sadistic clutches and killed him, becoming a local hero. But when Joan returns to her small town home to visit relatives, someone begins copying Bishop’s horrific modus operandi. As teenage girls go missing once more and the bloody clues gather, the police pinpoint Joan as their prime suspect, forcing her to face her deepest fears to apprehend the maniac.

The deal for SCAR was negotiated by Larry Greenberg, Phase 4 Films’ SVP of Acquisitions, and producer Norman Twain on behalf of the filmmakers.

“If Freddie Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Vorhees and Jigsaw had a party, they would have invited Ernie Bishop. This film is a total crowd pleaser for those that love to be scared out of their minds, and we are really excited about taking it to audiences,” says Meyerowitz. “With the popularity of 3D films and as more consumers increasingly recreate the theater experience by buying 3D televisions, SCAR is a groundbreaking independent film positioned to tap into this growing market.”

“The reception to this film has been amazing for us,” says Twain. “We are ecstatic about working with Phase 4 and look forward to a successful VOD run in North America.”

“I grew up with the wave of 3D horror films in the 1980s, and I was at the theater for every one of those movies, so when I was offered the opportunity to make an homage to the classic slasher horror films in the new digital stereoscopic 3D, I jumped at it,” says Weintrob. “It’s incredible how much more visceral the horror becomes in this new generation of 3D. We literally had someone in the audience pass out at our first test screening!”

SCAR is written by Zack Ford and stars Angela Bettis, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Ben Cotton and Christopher Titus. The film was produced by Norman Twain, Courtney Potts and Jamie Gordon, and executive produced by Len Koch, Bob Silberberg, Daniel Hank, Douglas Berquist and Allison Powell. Early next year, Phase 4 will release SCAR as a dual format combo pack, including an anaglyph 3D version and a traditional 2D version.

SCAR will be available on all major cable providers beginning October 1st.
