Newbie Archetype’s Impressive Lineup

5ivegirlsThere’s a fledgling production company out there that may be worth keeping an eye on. They’re called Archetype Films, the genre branch of indie production company Peace Arch Entertainment. Formed last year, Archetype Films already has five horror flicks under its belt either finished or in some stage of post production.

5ive Girls – Five wayward teenage girls are sent to a reformatory and discover they possess unique powers to battle the ancient demon, Legion, which holds thrall over the sinister institution. Lots of death and demon action follow. Stars Ron Perlman as a priest.

Heartstopper – Injured and hospitalized, two young people discover how much worse things can get when the dilapidated facility in which they are stranded is hit by a severe storm and a maniac stalks the corridors, butchering the patients and staff. After watching the trailer, essentially it’s about an executed killer that returns from the dead to rip people’s hearts out and needs a young patient in order to remain an immortal killer. Stars Robert Englund and Michael Ironside, neither of whom play the killer.

The Last Sect – A modern group of seductive vampires (i.e., lesbian vampires) are using the best source of fresh victims – the internet. While Van Helsing’s descendent tracks them, a young journalist is getting more than she bargained for from her story (i.e., seduced by lesbian vampires). Stars David Carradine, who clearly failed to parlay his Kill Bill comeback into anything worthwhile.

Warriors of Terra – A team of young animal liberationists penetrate a secure biotech facility, little expecting to be confronted by heavily armed guards. Soon the activists and the guards are falling prey to a horrifying entity within. That horrifying entity is a mutated female that injects people with a toxin that liquefies a victim’s insides for her feeding. Stars Edward Furlong.

The Last SectUKM: Ultimate Killing Machine – Waylon and Buddy decide to join the army as it appears to be their best option. But when they realize that they are part of a group that have been thrown into a medical experiment facility with a doctor who plans on turning them into ultimate killing machines, they must fight to destroy his other creations and save themselves. Stars Michael Madsen.

Trailers for each of these (except UKM) are available on their official website. The Last Sect will be hitting DVD on September 12th.

In addition to those (and several other non-horror films), Fangoria reports that Peace Arch Entertainment has announced two more films set to roll. The Mad will star Billy Zane in a terror tale involving a doctor and his teenage daughter encountering zombies at a truck stop. The other, the one I’m most looking forward to, is Bottom Feeder, in which a maintenance worker and his niece are terrorized by a giant, indestructible rat accidentally created during a military mishap. It stars Tom Sizemore, and given some of Sizemore’s recent happenings (drug problems, homemade porn online, allegations of physically abusing ex-girlfriend Heidi Fleiss), him starring in a film called Bottom Feeder only begs for a punchline.

I have a feeling we’ll be hearing more about Peace Arch Entertainment and Archetype Films in the near future.
