I've decided to revisit Watchmen.

I've also been re-reading it... left the book at my girlfriend's for her to read. In other comic book news, I got a flaming carrot tattoo

Here's a preview of Bump #1, which I think is going to be the first of the Fangoria comics to to be released.

Newsarama: Bump #1 Preview

Basic solicit stuff plus about 10 preview pages or so.

I snagged the first volume of MPD Psycho this past week. Pretty good, I'm intrigued that's for sure. An insane detective, twisted serial killers, weird conspiracy stuff. Wish the art wasn't quite so sparse but otherwise I dig it.

It's only on second reading I've discovered how much a sense of humour Dr. Manhattan actually has... and am I the only one who thinks that Rorschach is based partially upon H. P. Lovecraft?

I mean, he's first and foremost a parody of The Question, but just observe:

Both Rorschach and Lovecraft display a total revulsion of everything related to sex.

Both have extremely right-wing political inclinations - though Lovecraft was a technocratic pseudofascist whereas Rorschach is an Objectivist.

Both lost their fathers at a very young age.

Both have serious psychological issues with their mothers, and women in general.

Both live almost entirely on canned food and lots of sugar, except that Lovecraft at least cooked it.

Yet more evidence that Rorschach is the single greatest character in the history of fiction, along with how he is the only genuinely heroic of the various masked vigilantes in Watchmen while also being the most dysfunctional person conceivable.

Also, both Rorschach and Lovecraft are from the northeastern USA.

veeeeery interesting theory about the character and, knowing Moore, probably a true and accurate theory as well.

and I'm not sure I ever noticed a sense of humor in the good doctor, but I will re-read his parts later.

And just read Watchmen for the first time.

Greatest Graphic Novel ever written.

Pure and simple.

Why I have not read this sooner I do not know.

They just get better and better. Check out the Death spin offs as well.

After Watchmen, I'd recommend washing it down with some Astro City. While nowhere near as dark, intellectual, unnerving, or impactful, AC is a good read to see how other creators have tackled the de-constructionism of comic archetypes.

Well, after months of work, it's finally available for sale. My comic Ninja Garden (a tongue-in-cheek look at working-class superheroes running a restaurant) is available from Dimestoreproductions.com. Check it out! It's kind of a deconstructive reconstruction!

Go here to order.

http://www.dimestoreproductions.com/component/page,shop.product_details/category_id,22/flypage,shop.flypage/product_id,1019/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,149/

Any orders we receive before July 22nd counts toward the contest; the winner of which gets a four-issue mini series.

Thanks for listening to my rant. We now return you to your regularly scheduled comic talk. Mr. Green
