San Diego Comic-Con 2010: Michael Parks Heads to Kevin Smith's Red StateWe make no bones about it around these parts. Kevin Smith is one of our favorite directors so we’re pretty excited to see what the filmmaker will cook up with his very first horror flick, Red State. The first casting news is here, and given the film’s subject matter, it’s a winner.

Cinemablend reports that character actor Michael Parks (From Dusk Till Dawn, Grindhouse, Kill Bill) has officially signed on to star.

Red State is said to be inspired by a true case of terrifying extremism taking place in Topeka, Kansas. Specifically the Westboro Baptist Church, which is run by a man named Fred Phelps. He and his followers believe that homosexuality is the root cause of almost every single problem in American history. Ironic that it’s really only in America that such a person would be able to freely express his admittedly idiotic and close-minded viewpoint and gain national attention because of it.

All we know so far is that Parks’ role will be based on Phelps. Look for more soon!
