"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inablilty of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

"The Call of Cthulhu" (1926) - H.P. Lovecraft

Tonight we will journey from the corpse city of R'lyeh, where dead and dreaming Cthulhu lies, to the witch haunted city of Arkham and the halls of Miskatonic University where the dead don't always stay that way. Madness will be our companion because tonight the stars are finally right!

[i] Dread Central Cinema Presents

An H.P. Lovecraft Double Feature

Our descent into unfathomable insanity begins with the most faithful adaptation of Lovecraft's work committed to a live action motion picture
The Call of Cthulhu at 7 Pacific/ 8 Mountain/ 9 Central/ 10 Eastern. After a brief intermission we will take a tour of Arkham and her jewel of esoteric knowledge ,Miskatonic University, at approximatelyl 8 Pacific/ 9 Mountain/ 10 Central/ 11 Eastern. Just remember...

"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn."

Got that? Good! See you then.

"That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die."

Here’s a little something I ran across just this week…

I’m pretty sure we’re all familiar with the story that tonight’s movie, The Call of Cthulhu, adapts. Anyone who isn’t may want to wait until after the movie to read further, as some of it may be considered spoilers.

The Call of Cthulhu tells us about great and terrible Cthulhu, massive, standing miles high, a mountain that walks or lumbers about. He lies dead and dreaming, awaiting the proper time for his awakening, at his house in sunken R’lyeh, at 47°9′S latitude, 123°43′W longitude.

Several times during the summer of 1997, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, with their Vents Program for Acoustic Monitoring, recorded an ultra-low frequency underwater sound which they called the Bloop.

Here’s a recording of the Bloop, sped up several times, taken from the N.O.A.A.’s website:
Bloop

A spectrogram of the sound.

According to the N.O.A.A. description, the Bloop "rises rapidly in frequency over about one minute and was of sufficient amplitude to be heard on multiple sensors, at a range of over 5,000 km." This type of sound matches the audio profile of a living creature. It is possible to identify animals by the sounds they make, but the source of the Bloop remains unknown. Though it matches the audio profile of a living creature, there is no known animal that could have produced the sound. If it is an animal, it would have to be, reportedly, much, much larger than even a Blue Whale. To date there has been no explanation as further efforts to research the sound have been unsuccessful, because it has not been heard since 1997.

This sound was traced to somewhere around 50° S latitude,100° W longitude, very close to where Lovecraft placed R’lyeh.

Keep all this in mind as you listen to this:
Bloop in real time
…the Bloop, slowed to it’s original speed.

The Call of Cthulhu?

And here’s a CNN article on it, so that you know I’m not shittin’ you:

Hey guys!!

I'm afraid I'm working and if I can I'll try and join in for Re-Animator but I have a tight deadline of Monday night and I have a lot of editing to do between now and then. If I can I'll be here but if I can't then it's because I just can't get away. I will try though.

Weeping openly

Good luck on meeting that deadline.

That's definetly weird. I'm downloading it in real time now. How did you come across that LDP? No problem Gory. Take care of business and hopefully you get some time to hang.

Let's give it some more time before we start so BF and Pooflingerus can join in and whoever else picked up COC.

Part of that is just remixed stuff from the wiki. I had to spice it up a bit and make it seem more ominous.
