I have ...
Darkness Wakes : Tim Waggoner
Dispatch : Bentley Little
The Tower : Simon Clark
Berserk : Tim Lebbon
The Cellar : Richard Laymon
Night Wars : Graham Masterton.
Monster Nation by David Wellington.
That's what I pulled from my TBR pile. _________________ Insert something funny here |

| I'd go with Berserk . I haven't read it but from what I've read The Cellar is a good choice as well. |

| The Cellar's an extremely fast read. The writing's a bit crude, as it was Laymon's first book. Needless to say, it's not recommended for those offended by acts of violence and sexual perversion. Even readers who can handle Laymon's gore find themselves offput by this books sex: beastiality, S&M, and pedophilia abound. |

Edward Lee is my all time favorite. He's totally depraved.
I'll let you know how this one stacks up against that kind of writing. Lee is a total gross out. _________________ Insert something funny here |

I'm interested in what you think about Monster Nation and The Tower. The former because I read end enjoyed the first in the series and want to know if the second stacks up. The latter because I loved whatever book Simon Clark wrote about all adults over 20 suddenly going nuts and trying to kill every young oerson, but put down his more recent work, Vamphyrric, in disgust. It was just plain lame. _________________ I'll keep digging ... 'til I feel something here |

You're thinking of BLOOD CRAZY. A great bookm of course.
I might take Monster Nation to Florida with me this weekend. I'm still trying to decide. _________________ Insert something funny here |

That's the one.
I'm always surprised when the first book I read from an author is good, only for subsequent efforts to be pure crap. It seems to happen all too often. _________________ I'll keep digging ... 'til I feel something here |

| I liked other Simon Clark books I read: Nailed by the Heart, Darker, and Darkness Demands. Can't speak for Vamphyrric - I think I skipped it because it looked too much like a million other vampire stories. |

Oh, but I have to totally disagree.
Clark's VAMPYRRHIC is anything BUT a run of the mill vampire novel. It's actually exceptionally different from the norm & one of my very favorite genre novels of the past decade. Fact is, I'm pissed at Leisure for choosing to publish something like THE TOWER while failing to pick up Clark's follow up novel VAMPYRRHIC RITES yet.
I've been a huge Simon Clark fan since discovering his work back in '99 & have much love for the vast majority of his books. Unfortunately, that doesn't extend to his most recent output from Leisure. Especially THE TOWER.
I don't know if that novel was a "rush job" just knocked off to fulfill a deadline or what, but it didn't even seem to be written by the same guy that had produced classics like NAILED BY THE HEART, THE FALL & DARKER. Honestly, it was so bad I couldn't even finish it. I got about a third of the way through the bloody thing & then just set it aside in such disappointment that I never picked it up again ... _________________ I LIVE IN THE WEAK & THE WOUNDED |
