Macht Joins Whiteout

Word came down this morning from the virtual pages of Variety that Gabriel Macht (The Good Shepherd) has signed on to spend the next few months in the cold with Kate Beckinsale, choosing to join up as her co-star in the first new Dark Castle Entertainment movie, Whiteout.

Based on the comic of the same name, Whiteout is the story of a U.S. Marshall who has three days to solve a murder in Antarctica before the sun goes down and the continent’s long, cold winter begins. Some mysteries are better left unsolved, if you ask me.

Tom Skerritt and Columbus Short have already been on board, so the cast is rounding out nicely. Swordfish helmer Dominic Sena takes the director’s seat for Whiteout, which is being produced by Dark Castle Entertainment but will hopefully not be at the same level of suck as most of the house’s previous output, now that Joel Silver plans to be directly involved with all the projects.

Possibly interesting side note: Bastion of truth IMDB has helmer Sena’s name also attached to the forever-in-development Season of the Witch, the story of a group of knights in the 14th Century who are transporting a suspected witch to a monastery, where the monks determine she could be the cause of the Black Plague. Nice. Hope that one turns out, too!
