Newlyweds Jamie (Kwanten) and Lisa Ashen have established a new life for themselves far from their hometown of Ravens Fair--a sleepy, near-forgotten blip on the map haunted by late-night whispers and ghost stories from generations past. But when his wife is gruesomely murdered, Jamie reluctantly returns to Ravens Fair for the funeral, intent on unraveling the mystery surrounding her death.

Once back under his family's roof, reunited with his ill father (Gunton) and his father's new young bride (Valletta), Jamie begins to explore the creepy town and encounters the legend of Mary Shaw, a famous murdered ventriloquist whose presence still casts a pall over Ravens Fair. Himself the lead suspect in his wife's murder, Jamie is forced to dig deep into the town's bloody past for answers, where he soon uncovers the truth behind the curse that ended Lisa's life...and threatens to take his as well.

It looks like this is finally seeing release this March. It's amazing that this film has been sitting around so long James Wan has already completed production on another feature -- a very loose "adaptation" of Brian Garfield's book Death Sentence starring Kevin Bacon.

You'd think Universal would be able to market a horror picture by the maker of Saw -- even if it is a ghost picture.

I'm looking forward to this one as it's always nice to see a director pushing himself and trying new things. A creepy Hammer style horror is going to be really refreshing after all the torture and scary kids with long hair.

It's creepy enough when there are 100's of ventriloquist dummys coming to life, but they just had to make it even creepier by constructing a clown ventriloquist dummy. This movie looks great.

Looks nice and Bava-esque, but if the film itself is as full of jump scares and Avid farts as the trailer then I'm not interested.

I doubt the film is as jumpy as the trailer. Whanell has said that both he and Wan did this film because it is slower paced and completely different then Saw. They wanted to go in the direction of Bava, Hammer and so on. From the sounds of it, that was one of the problems Universal had with the film.

That looks a lot better than I would've thought. And I gotta say that was a pretty fucked up trailer for being a green banded one. The MPAA wouldn't recognize my ballsack if it smacked them between the eyes!

Looks freaky enough, but I'm getting a very troubling Darkness Falls sort of vibe from that trailer. Hope that's just post-traumatic stress rearing it's ugly head. That flick fucked me up for every ghost/curse movie that's come after it.

I'm sure that's eactly the same situation with BLACK CHRISTMAS, and look how that turned out.

This film has just been on the shelf for waaaaaaay to long.

I was really impressed with the trailer.

Then again, I was blown away by the Saw trailer and ended up laughed my way through the actual film.

I'll give James Wan another chane though.

Universal has also revealed a new red band trailer over at the official site for the movie: http://www.deadsilencemovie.net/redband/

For a film they let languish on their shelves for so long, it looks like Universal is actually making a decent push for this thing. Too bad it's going head to head with The Hills Have Eyes 2. Hopefully both films will find audiences, but I'm afraid one (or both) will suffer.

What really freaks me out in the Redband trailer is the old woman kidnapping and killing the kid and then using his body as a dummy. Shocked
