When it comes to cryptids, we always hear about the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, the Yeti, etc.; but the Boggy Creek Monster gets nowhere near enough love. Also known as the Fouke Monster, the legendary ape-like creature has been reported to have been sighted many times since 1971, and despite several movies already being made, it never really entered the public consciousness on the same level as many of its counterparts.

The new film The Boggy Creek Monster is launching a Kickstarter campaign on January 31st, with one of the perks being a poster designed by horror artist Sam Shearon. In the meantime you can check out their teaser trailer, which doesn’t give a look at the monster but still serves as a downright effective intro to the film.

Synopsis:
On January 31st, the Small Town Monsters film crew will launch a crowdfunding campaign to fund their third film examining rural, mythological monsters: The Boggy Creek Monster. The film will focus on the 1971 horror classic Legend of Boggy Creek and the true stories that inspired it, and it will be filmed in Fouke, Arkansas, in partnership with author and researcher Lyle Blackburn. The “Fouke Monster” became the subject of nationwide interest after a rash of sightings of a hair-covered beast rocked the tiny town of Fouke in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

Ahead of the campaign launch, the STM team has released what they’re calling a “production teaser” to help give viewers a sense of what they hope to accomplish with the film. Drawing on soundbites from the Legend of Boggy Creek film and utilizing modern footage from the swamps of lower Arkansas, the trailer evokes a foreboding mood.

A Kickstarter campaign is a form of crowdfunding in which people are welcome to purchase various “rewards” with the monetary amount given going toward the production of the film. In this case the rewards include apparel, a one-of-a-kind poster (designed by artist Sam Shearon) featuring the Boggy Creek Monster himself, film memorabilia, and, uniquely, a chance to see the second film in the Small Town Monsters’ series, Beast of Whitehall, a full month before its official release on April 1st.
