Two points and a question:

1. They're comparing this to Sleuth, which launched late last year. So far, Sleuth has been an excellent example of a 'nostalgia' network. Mystery and action films, and non-stop mystery and action shows. A-Team, Knight Rider, etc. If that's the model for Chiller, we're looking at a lot of old horror (and sci-fi, I bet) movies and shows. Since they named Blade Runner as one of the films, it's clear that dark sci-fi is considered fair game, just as they consider shows like Knight Rider okay for Sleuth, the mystery network.

2. Sci-Fi has done one thing 100% correct since the NBC buyout: original shows. Battlestar Galactica, of course, but also Eureka and The Lost Room (although the ending to the latter was incomplete and rushed). Dresden Files looks promising as well. Naturally, there's the rehabilitation of the Stargate franchise into a fairly effective sci-fi series. This bodes well for Chiller, as it could mean some effective original shows. My personal prayer? Buy off Carnivale and let Knauf finish it, even if he will have to cut language and content for Chiller's broadcast standards.

3. The question: isn't there going to be some kind of guff between this new channel and Chiller Theater? I know one is a con and one is a channel, but the similarity of the name and the fact that they exist in the same realm of entertainment would suggest that the folks at the Chiller Theater are due a little bit of green from NBC, as it's clear they could be profiting off of Chiller's excellent reputation with the horror fans.

I'm not certain, Mr. Dark, if money changed hands or not but read this from the Chiller press release NBC Universal put out:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117957250.html?categoryid=14&cs=1

"NBC U first explored the idea of an all-horror channel more than a year ago but opted instead to launch Sleuth, a cabler focused on crime programming. Nonetheless, a complete business model was drawn up, and NBC U even locked up the rights to the Chiller name."

That's not a promising look at all. And what's the point of the reversed letters, anyway?

They think horror fans are illiterate?

It's a joke, but I have to wonder how much of one.

Yah -- I have Direct TV and am anxiously awaiting the launch date. I love my Direct TV for the NFL Ticket and this just makes it all the better.

It will be a lot like the Sleuth Channel for a while -- old shows thrown on the air -- but that's how Spike TV started and now they have orignal programming.

I'm sure the font will change, but the background is very "SAW" influenced.

Or very "Dirty Bathroom" influenced.

Seriously, when has yellow been a symbolic color of horror?

Maybe it's just a temporary color scheme and the on-air look and feel will have several different permutations of the logo? At least I hope so. Urine yellow isn't very symbolic for the genre, I agree, unless they're trying to say "our programming is so scary you'll wet yourself!".
