MTV Howling Over Teen Wolf

Back in June we told you that Teen Wolf was the latest title added to the Hollywood remake-palooza. Turns out the Michael J. Fox-less rehash isn’t headed for the big screen after all. That’s because MTV has just ordered a pilot for a new “Teen Wolf” television series. Don’t expect any basketball playing werewolf shenanigans in this one, though. It seems evident that MTV is more interested in courting the Twilight crowd.

According to THR, MTV’s potential “Teen Wolf” series will “draw from the horror genre to explore werewolf mythology and include a romantic plot line.” MTV’s senior VP of development Liz Gateley goes on to make a highly dubious analogy, “It has more of an ‘American Werewolf in Paris’ feel to it.” In what alternate reality where comparing your werewolf project in a positive light with An American Werewolf in Paris does this woman live?

“Criminal Minds” creator Jeff Davis is scripting the pilot, which Gateley goes on to describe as “a dramatic thriller with two best friends in the center who provide a great comedy element: They are two very relatable characters on the outer circles of popular cliques.” So toss in a little “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” while you’re at it.

Given the cesspool of vacuous, self-indulgent, materialistic, tweenage vanity glorification that is MTV’s current slate of “reality” programming, the very notion of an (admittedly) scripted genre program on the network that once ran actual music videos can only be considered a positive. Maybe they can combine programming and give us “My Super Sweet Sixteen Wolf”? And you thought those girls were ego monsters to begin with.
