No. I would've burst into flames if I had. I'm surprised that Keene didn't.
Really, I wish I had gone. It was about 35 minutes away and I totally forgot all about it. _________________ Insert something funny here |

I LOVED The Rising...Sort of dug City of the Dead, and LOVED Terminal.
I have the Conquerer Worms sitting on my shelf. I am a fan of this man's work.
Though I don't really like books in the first person as I feel it eliminates a lot of the suspense but Terminal worked me over quite a bit so hopefully TCW will do the same. |

For some reason, I feel the same. First-person has always felt gimmicky to me. It works well in crime stories, but I've always preferred (limited) third-person voice in horror. I can't explain it. _________________ I AM TELEVISION!

I can...In a first person narrative 99% of the time, unless it's complete bullshit, the protagonist can't die. So it eliminates ANY kind of suspense. But there is the 1% in which an auther tweaks the concept and does it in such an amazingly clever way. Keene does that in Terminal. |

Old topic, but having just about finished The Conqueror Worms, add me to the list of Keene-fans.
I'll order The Rising, City of the Dead and Terminal as soon as my next pay rolls in. _________________ I'll keep digging ... 'til I feel something here |

The Rising is a great fucking book. But keep City of the Dead close by when you finish it. You'll want to start it right away. _________________ Insert something funny here |

The problem is that CITY OF THE DEAD doesn't nearly live up to the prmose of THE RISING. It felt rushed, uninspired and like a book he had to write rather than one he was passionate about. It also needed a lot of editing. There'd be a nice drinking game where you have to down a shot every time a character "quips" something. You'd be shitfaced before you get through 20 pages.
So far CONQUEROR WORMS is my favorite of Keene's books. Love the part with the Satanists and the Cthulhu. |

He did have to write COTD. After all the mail he received from the ending of THE RISING, he had to end it somehow.
I still liked The Rising better than any other. _________________ Insert something funny here |

He has some decent short stories out there too if you look for them.
I have been recommended "Terminal" on more than one occasion so I may have to check that out. |

I recently read Keene's Take The Long Way Home, which is a very hard book to get your hands on. It only 100 pages long, but it's a pretty dam good book. It's about the rapture. It's unlike any other of Keene's work. It's a book that feels almost emotionally real.
On the flip side I can't wait until Ghoul comes out. Brian honestly thinks that this is his best work yet. So I'm eager to check it out. |
